The two last decades have witnessed the appearance and the successful development of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) contrast agents (CAs). Though MRI, which has become an essential medical diagnostic tool, can be performed without contrast agents, its ra ...

A major challenge in cancer biology is to monitor and understand cancer metabolism in vivo with the goal of improved diagnosis and perhaps therapy. Because of the complexity of biochemical pathways, tracer methods are required for detecting specific enzyme ...

In this thesis, the magnetic properties of self-assembled 3d and 4d metal nano-structures supported on surfaces have been investigated. The atomic coordination within the nano-structures was found to profoundly affect important quantities such as the magne ...

A high throughput method was designed to produce hyperpolarized gases by combining lowtemperature dynamic nuclear polarization with a sublimation procedure. It is illustrated by applications to 129Xe nuclear magnetic resonance in xenon gas, leading to a si ...

Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) is used for a large array of applications, ranging from chemical characterization to oil drilling to medical imaging. In these fields NMR is used as an investigational tool, but new techniques and applications are continuou ...

Nuclear magnetic relaxation in the presence of paramagnetic centres has gained increasing interest in recent years partly due to its importance for contrast agents in magnetic resonance imaging. Rational design of new more efficient agents is possible as a ...

For most of the last forty years, the techniques of Dynamic Nuclear Polarization (DNP) have been confined to particle-physics laboratories building polarized targets, but recently it has been shown that samples similar to a solid target can be transformed ...

During the last two decades, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has evolved into one of the most powerful techniques in medical diagnosis. Among the various medical diagnostic modalities, such as X-ray or ultra-sound imaging, MRI is the technique of choice e ...
