Access to metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) with enhanced me-chanical stability is key to their successful deployment in practical applications. However, the high porosity of the material often af-fects mechanical stability. In this article, to achieve highl ...

In the context of the need to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions from personal transportation, a new process for the production of e-methanol is presented. It is a CO2 hydrogenation process, powered mainly by renewable energy sources such as pho ...

Understanding the structure and behavior of intermediates in chemical reactions is key to developing greater control over the reaction outcome. This principle is particularly important in the synthesis of metal nanocrystals (NCs), where the reduction, nucl ...

Designing and synthesizing efficient molecular catalysts may unlock the great challenge of controlling the CO2 reduction reaction (CO2RR) with molecular precision. Nickel phthalocyanine (NiPc) appears as a promising candidate for this task due to its adjus ...

Frustrated Lewis pair (FLP) chemistry has gained significant attention in the past decade as the main group hydrogenation catalysts. The majority of the reported FLP catalysts utilize either boron-containing Lewis acids (LAs) or alternatively isolobal and ...

Some climate engineering technologies are being developed to remove CO2 from the atmosphere (carbon dioxide removal, CDR), which is expected to contribute to reducing and preventing climate change. Some other technologies (solar radiation modification, SRM ...

Non-noble metal nanocrystals with well-defined shapes have been attracting increasingly more attention in the last decade as potential alternatives to noble metals, by virtue of their earth abundance combined with intriguing physical and chemical propertie ...

Colloidally synthesised nanocrystals (NCs) are increasingly utilised as catalysts to drive both thermal and electrocatalytic reactions. Their well-defined size and shape, controlled by organic ligands, are ideal to identify the parameters relevant to the a ...

As the EU energy system transitions to low carbon, the technology choices should consider a broader set of criteria. The use of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) prevents burden shift across life cycle stages or impact categories, while the use of Energy System ...

High internal surface areas, an asset that is highly sought after in material design, has brought metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) to the forefront of materials research. In fact, a major focus in the field is on creating innovative ways to maximize MOF sur ...

The growing trend of the cruise ship industry, together with increasing concerns over its impact on the environment, makes these ships a much relevant target for efforts toward increasing ship energy efficiency, thus ultimately reducing fuel consumption an ...

This year Mankind will release about 39 Gt carbon dioxide into the earth's atmosphere, where it acts as a greenhouse gas. The chemical transformation of carbon dioxide into useful products becomes increasingly important, as the CO2 concentration in the atm ...

How green or environmentally friendly urban areas are in comparison with rural areas is a topic that has received much attention in recent years. This is understandable because urban areas already emit around 70% of the global greenhouse gases. This percen ...

Injection or withdrawal of fluid at depth may trigger felt seismicity. Such human-induced seismicity is a key environmental concern related to the exploitation of natural underground resources. Thus, understanding how to avoid triggering felt earthquakes p ...

A rapidly growing population and industrialization have caused the exploitation of natural resources in keeping with fossil fuels shortage. Due to the combustion of fossil fuels, the concentration of CO2 in the earth's atmosphere, which is a potent greenho ...

Given the urgent need to develop a sustainable, carbon neutral energy storage system on a global scale, intense efforts are currently underway to advance the field of artificial photosynthesis: i.e. solar fuel engineering. In this review we give an overvie ...

Contamination of the environment by anthropogenic volatile organic compounds (VOC) became of major concern during the last decades. Present in gas streams of many industrial exhausts, they are harmful and detrimental for both human health and environment e ...

Chemical absorption in amine aqueous solutions is a widespread technology for postcombustion carbon capture, and a large effort is ongoing to improve their performance. Characterization of the "reactant" and "product" solutions at the microscopic level is ...

The actualization of a hydrogen economy requires cost-effective and environmentally benign solutions to hydrogen production. Chemical energy in the form of hydrogen is more interesting than electricity to satisfy our ever-increasing energy demand because i ...

A novel Ru-catalyzed hydrogenation of carbon dioxide proceeds with an unprecedented high formic acid to amine ratio (AAR of 2.69), which results in an improved energy content. The presented catalyst system allows for reversible fast hydrogen loading (even ...
