Resistance against anticancer drugs remains a serious obstacle in cancer treatment. Here we used novel strategies to target microsomal glutathione transferase 1 (MGST1) and glutathione transferase pi (GSTP) that are often overexpressed in tumors and confer ...

Within the field of lignin biorefining, significant research effort has been dedicated to the advancement of catalytic methods for lignocellulose depolymerization. However, another key challenge in lignin valorization is the conversion of the obtained mono ...

This thesis is divided in four independent parts related to four different research projects. Each chapter describes one of the multiple aspects covered by organic chemistry, such as the generation of functional interfaces, understanding of biological proc ...

Novel derivatives of the clinically established anticancer drug oxaliplatin were synthesized. Cytotoxicity of the compounds was studied in six human cancer cell lines by means of the MTT assay. Additionally, most promising complexes were also investigated ...

More than 99% of currently approved clinical drugs are organic compounds. In contrast, the percentage of metal-containing drugs (metallodrugs) is very low. In cancer chemotherapy, however, platinum coordination compounds represented by cisplatin and deriva ...

A series of bimetallic titanium-ruthenium complexes of general formula (η5-C5H5)(μ-η5:κ1-C5H4(CR12)nPR2R3)TiCl2RuCl2 (n = 0, 1, 2 or 4; R1 = H or Me; R2 = H, Ph, or Cy; R3 = Ph or Cy) have been synthesized, including two novel compds. as wel ...

Although genomic DNA is the primary target of anticancer platinum-based drugs, interactions with proteins also play a significant role in their overall activity. In this study, competitive binding of cisplatin with an oligonucleotide and two peptides corre ...

Cancer cells exhibit different properties that make them dangerous to the host, such as the ability to invade other tissues and the abnormal response to the control mechanisms that regulate the division of normal cells, which allow them to divide in a rela ...

Hypervalent iodine reagents have recently emerged as powerful tools for late-stage peptide and protein functionalization. Herein we report a tyrosine bioconjugation methodology for the introduction of hypervalent iodine onto biomolecules under physiologica ...

Epigenetic silencing of essential components of DNA repair pathways is a common event in many tumor types, and comprise O6-methylguanine-DNA methyltransferase (MGMT), human mut L homolog 1 (hMLH1), Werner syndrome gene (WRN), breast cancer susceptibility g ...

Spin hyperpolarization enables real-time metabolic imaging of carbon-13-labeled substrates. While hyperpolarized L- (1-13C)alaninamide is a probe of the cell-surface tumor marker aminopeptidase-N (APN, CD13), its activity in vivo has not been described. Sc ...

A review. Platinum complex-based chemotherapy is one of the major treatment options of many malignancies. Although severe side effects occur, and only a limited spectrum of tumors can be cured, Pt compds. are used in every second therapy scheme. Thus, many ...

The automated construction of datasets has become increasingly relevant in computational chemistry. While transition-metal catalysis has greatly benefitted from bottom-up or top-down strategies for the curation of organometallic complexes libraries, the fi ...

Enzymes that are involved in the synthesis and processing of oligosaccharides, such as glycosidases, are important catalysts for the specific assembly of oligosaccharide structures on proteins. Design and preparation of selective inhibitors of these enzyme ...

A series of trans-platinum(IV) complexes with functionalized aromatic carboxylate ligands, cis,cis,trans-Pt(NH3)2Cl2(CO2C6H4R)2 (R = H (3), p-vinyl (4), p-methoxy (5), p-iodo (6), ...

Among different polymers nanostructured cross-linked aromatics have the greatest potential as catalytic supports due to their exceptional thermal and chemical stability and preservation of the active phase morphology. This work studies the ability of hyper ...

The creation of new chiral ligands capable of providing high stereocontrol in metal-catalyzed reactions is crucial in modern organic synthesis. The production of bioactive molecules as single enantiomers is increasingly required, and asymmetric catalysis w ...

Hippocampus plays a critical role in linking brain energetics and behavior typically associated to stress exposure. In this study, we aimed to simultaneously assess excitatory and inhibitory neuronal metabolism in mouse hippocampus in vivo by applying (18) ...

As the first multidimensional NMR approach, 2D J-resolved (2DJ) spectroscopy is distinguished by signal resolution and detection sensitivity with remarkable advantages for the exhaustive evaluation of complex mixtures and environmental samples due to its c ...
