The microstructural evolution of the two austenitic alloys Fe-20Mn-3Al-0.7C wt pct and Fe-20Mn-6Al-0.7C wt pct when different thermal and thermomechanical treatments are performed has been studied. To this end, a generic industrial die of 100 ton capacity ...

Two new ferrito-martensitic oxide dispersion strengthened (ODS) steels reinforced with (Y, Ti, O) nanoparticles were elaborated using a high-energy attritor. The milled powder was consolidated by hot extrusion at 1050 degrees C. The two types of ODS steels ...

In this thesis, we exploited optical and X-ray pump-probe methods in a synergistic approach to study the interplay of the electronic, spin and structural degrees of freedom in two class of complex systems relevant for solar energy conversion applications: ...

Diffractive optical elements are ultra-thin optical components required for a variety of applications because of their high design flexibility. We introduce a gradient-based optimization method based on a step-transition perturbation approach which is an e ...

The use of layered perovskites is an important strategy to improve the stability of hybrid perovskite materials and their optoelectronic devices. However, tailoring their properties requires accurate structure determination at the atomic scale, which is a ...

The transformation induced plasticity (TRIP) effect is investigated during a load path change using a cruciform sample. The transformation properties are followed by in-situ neutron diffraction derived from the central area of the cruciform sample. Additio ...

With the emergence of X-ray free-electron lasers, it is possible to investigate the structure of nanoscale samples by employing coherent diffractive imaging in the X-ray spectral regime. In this work, we developed a refinement method for structure reconstr ...

Four new Schiff-bases have been synthesized from the 1:2 M condensation of 4,5,6,7-tetrahydrobenzothiazole-2,6-diamine with 2-hydroxybenzaldehyde (SL3), 5-Bromo-2-hydroxybenzaldehyde (SL2), 2-hydroxy-3-methoxybenzaldehyde (SL3) and 2-hydroxy-1-naphthaldehy ...

Long-range magnetic ordering and short-range spin correlations in layered noncentrosymmetric orthogermanate Li2MnGeO4 were studied by means of polarized and unpolarized neutron scattering. The combined Rietveld refinement of synchrotron and neutron powder ...

We provide an overview of what has been accomplished by our team, since 1998, in the area of first-principles molecular dynamics (FPMD) modeling of glassy chalcogenides, a prototypical family of network-forming disordered materials. After a broad introduct ...

Micro light emitting diodes have been grown by metal organic vapor phase epitaxy on standard GaN and partly relaxed InGaNOS substrates with the purpose of incorporating higher concentrations of indium for identical growth conditions. Green emission has bee ...

Potassium chromium jarosite, KCr3(OH)(6)(SO4)(2) (Cr-jarosite), is considered a promising candidate to display spin liquid behavior due to the strong magnetic frustration imposed by the crystal structure. However, the ground state magnetic properties have ...

Characterizing and controlling the uniformity of nanoparticles is crucial for their application in science and technology because crystalline defects in the nanoparticles strongly affect their unique properties. Recently, ultra-short and ultra-bright X-ray ...
