Conjugation spaces are equipped with an involution such that the fixed points have the same mod 2 cohomology (as a graded vector space, a ring, and even an unstable algebra) but with all degrees divided by 2, generalizing the classical examples of complex ...

Hamiltonian Monte Carlo (HMC) is a widely deployed method to sample from high-dimensional distributions in Statistics and Machine learning. HMC is known to run very efficiently in practice and its popular second-order "leapfrog" implementation has long bee ...

Developing molecules that emulate the properties of naturally occurring ice-binding proteins (IBPs) is a daunting challenge. Rather than relying on the (limited) existing structure–property relationships that have been established for IBPs, here we report ...

Many research questions involve time-to-event outcomes that can be prevented from occurring due to competing events. In these settings, we must be careful about the causal interpretation of classical statistical estimands. In particular, estimands on the h ...

We present a theoretical analysis of the CORSING (COmpRessed SolvING) method for the numerical approximation of partial differential equations based on compressed sensing. In particular, we show that the best s-term approximation of the weak solution of a ...

Motivation: The majority of genome analysis tools and pipelines require data to be decrypted for access. This potentially leaves sensitive genetic data exposed, either because the unencrypted data is not removed after analysis, or because the data leaves t ...

What is social housing, is it a right or a property? Is it guaranteed for all by welfare state or non-governmental organizations or a commodity in capitalist production and market relations? According to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights of 1948, h ...

We report the measurement of gamma gamma -> eta(c) (1S) -> eta(c) (2S) -> eta'pi(+)pi(-) with eta' decays to gamma rho and eta pi(+)pi(-) using 941 fb(-1) of data collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e(+)e(-) collider. The eta(c) ...

This work is concerned with approximating a trivariate function defined on a tensor-product domain via function evaluations. Combining tensorized Chebyshev interpolation with a Tucker decomposition of low multilinear rank yields function approximations tha ...

We consider the problem of non-negative super-resolution, which concerns reconstructing a non-negative signal x = Sigma(k )(i=1)a(i)delta(ti) from m samples of its convolution with a window function phi(s - t), of the form y(s(j)) = Sigma(k)(i=1) a(i) phi( ...

We present a new family of snakes that satisfy the property of multiresolution by exploiting subdivision schemes. We show in a generic way how to construct such snakes based on an admissible subdivision mask. We derive the necessary energy formulations and ...

While the basic greedy algorithm gives a semi-streaming algorithm with an approximation guarantee of 2 for the unweighted matching problem, it was only recently that Paz and Schwartzman obtained an analogous result for weighted instances. Their approach is ...

A study is presented of central exclusive production of gamma(n S) states, where the gamma (n S) resonances decay to the mu(+) mu(-) final state, using p p collision data recorded by the LHCb experiment. The cross-section is measured in the rapidity range ...

We consider various versions of the obstacle and thin-obstacle problems, we interpret them as variational inequalities, with non-smooth constraint, and prove that they satisfy a new constrained Lojasiewicz inequality. The difficulty lies in the fact that, ...

The Materials Genome Approach (MGA) aims to accelerate development of new materials by incorporating computational and data-driven approaches to reduce the cost of identification of optimal structures for a given application. Here, we use the MGA to guide ...

Every Gelfand pair (G, K) admits a decomposition G = K P, where P < G is an amenable subgroup. In particular, the Furstenberg boundary of G is homogeneous. Applications include the complete classification of non-positively curved Gelfand pairs, relying on ...
