Here we demonstrate the suitability of a local mutual information measure for estimating the temporal dynamics of cross-frequency coupling (CFC) in brain electrophysiological signals. In CFC, concurrent activity streams in different frequency ranges intera ...

The technological environment that supports the learning process tends to be the main data source for Learning Analytics. However, this trend leaves out those parts of the learning process that are not computer-mediated. To overcome this problem, involving ...

Economic optimal operation typically involves operating as close as possible to the active constraints. However, in the presence of disturbances it is necessary to back-off from the constraints in order to avoid violating them. The backoff approach aims at ...

A system and method for cooperative data streaming are disclosed. According to one embodiment, a system for cooperative data streaming comprises a group of devices comprising at least two devices, which are interested in obtaining the same content from the ...

In this thesis, we investigate methods for the practical and accurate localization of Internet performance problems. The methods we propose belong to the field of network loss tomography, that is, they infer the loss characteristics of links from end-to-en ...

We investigate two important problems in media delivery via active network agents. First, we consider streaming multiple video assets over a shared backbone network through an intermediate proxy-server to a set of receiving clients. The proxy is located at ...

This paper describes an attempt to understand better the endogenous relationships between urban form, accessibility to public transit, and daily travel distance. A model of two simultaneous equations was implemented. The model took into account the interac ...

Modelling, dimensioning and performance analysis of optical backbone networks is the main concern of this thesis. Modelling consists in representing a network under a abstract form, simpler and easier to analyse, the model. Dimensioning is achieved when ne ...

The aim of this thesis is to develop a new methodology to determine dynamic Origin-Destination (OD) matrices for urban networks characterized by a high number of traffic hubs, complex route choice possibilities and a high level of traffic controls. By revi ...

Emerging pervasive wireless networks, pocket switched networks, Internet of things, vehicular networks and even sensor networks present very challenging communication circumstances. They might involve up to several hundreds of wireless devices with mobilit ...

There is great potential for the development of many new applications using data on mobile objects and mobile regions. To promote these kinds of applications advanced data management techniques for the representation and analysis of mobility-related data a ...

The paper addresses the media-specific rate allocation problem in multipath networks. The streaming rate on each path is determined such that the end- to-end media distortion is minimized, when the receiving client aggregates packets received via multiple ...

Rate and diversity impose a fundamental trade-off in wireless communication. High-rate space-time codes come at a cost of lower reliability (diversity), and high reliability (diversity) implies a lower rate. However, wireless networks need to support appli ...

Networks on Chips (NoCs) are required to tackle the increasing delay and poor scalability issues of bus-based communication architectures. Many of today’s NoC designs are based on single path routing. By utilizing multiple paths for routing, congestion in ...

We consider streaming of pre-encoded and packetized media over best-effort networks in presence of acknowledgment feedbacks. We first review the rate-distortion optimization framework in such scenarios. Given an estimation of future transmission resources, ...

We address the problem of delay-constrained streaming of multimedia packets over dynamic bandwidth channels. Efficient streaming solutions generally rely on the knowledge of the channel bandwidth, in order to select the media packets to be transmitted, acc ...

There has been a significant growth in freight traffic over the last few decades in Europe. The Alps, located in the middle of North-South route, are particularly sensitive regarding this evolution because of their topographic and climatic characteristics. ...

We address the problem of joint path selection and video source rate allocation in multipath streaming in order to optimize a media specific quality of service. An optimization problem is proposed, which aims at minimizing a video distortion metric based o ...

n source and destination pairs randomly located in an area extending linearly with n want to communicate with each other. Signals transmitted from one user to another at distance r apart are subject to a power attenuation of r^{-alpha} and random phase cha ...

We present an architecture for implementing a wireless physical layer in a packet-based network simulator. We integrate this architecture in the popular ns-2 network simulator and use it to implement an impulse-radio ultra-wide band (IR-UWB) physical layer ...
