How often have you been able to implement an algorithm as it is described in a paper? And when you did, were you confident that you had exactly the same parameter values and results as the authors of the paper? All too often, articles do not describe all t ...

This paper addresses the problem of streaming packetized media over a lossy packet network, with sender-driven (re)transmissions and receiver acknowledgments. It extends the markovian formulation of the rate- distortion optimized (RaDiO) streaming framewor ...

Wireless sensor networks are ideally built on low-cost, low-complexity nodes that have a low power consumption to guarantee a long network lifetime. These are all properties that can potentially be achieved with impulse radio ultra-wide band (IR-UWB). In a ...

In this work we present a multi-path routing strategy that guarantees in-order packet delivery for Networks on Chips (NoCs). We present a design methodology that uses the routing strategy to optimally spread the traffic in the NoC to minimize the network b ...

We consider the problem of distributed packet selection and scheduling for multiple video streams sharing a communication channel. An optimization framework is proposed, that enables the multiple senders to coordinate their packet transmission schedules, s ...

Distributed Hash Tables (DHTs) provide a scalable mechanism for mapping identifiers to socket addresses. As each peer in the network can initiate lookup requests, a DHT has to process concurrently a potentially very large number of requests. In this paper, ...

Networks on Chip (NoC) has been proposed as a scalable and reusable solution for interconnecting the ever- growing number of processor/memory cores on a single silicon die. As the hardware complexity of a NoC is significant, methods for designing a NoC wit ...

Wireless networking technologies allow computing devices to move while keeping them online, but the device mobility poses considerable technical challenges. Network designers, on the one hand, consider mobility to be harmful because it leads to dynamic and ...

Sensor networks measuring correlated data are considered, where the task is to gather data from the network nodes to a sink. A specific scenario is addressed, where data at nodes are lossy coded with high-resolution, and the information measured by the nod ...

The throughput of wireless networks is known to scale poorly when the number of users grows. The rate at which an arbitrary pair of nodes can communicate must decrease to zero as the number of users tends to infinity, under various assumptions. One of them ...

Packet detection and timing acquisition for IR-UWB networks such as 802.15.4a relies on the presence of an acquisition sequence (or preamble) at the beginning of each packet. A simple network design choice is to use a common acquisition sequence for the wh ...

Recent advances in wireless communications and computing technology are enabling the emergence of low-cost devices that incorporate sensing, processing, and communication functionalities. A large number of these devices are deployed in the field to create ...
