The research presented in this paper highlights current practices for the end-of-life of concrete and explores opportunities in using unaltered concrete rubbles from demolition for the digital construction of structural walls. Through research by iterative ...

In digital timber construction, scanning technologies and point cloud data are widely used due to the accessibility of affordable 3D sensors, photogrammetry, and userfriendly CAD tools. While typically not employed for accuracy checks in timber fabrication ...

We present a reinforcement learning framework for constructing assemblies composed of rigid parts, which are commonly seen in many historical masonry buildings and bridges. Traditional construction methods for such structures often depend on dense scaffold ...

This paper proposes a computational approach to form-find pin-jointed bar structures subjected to combinations of tension and compression forces. The generated equilibrium states can meet structural and geometrical constraints via gradient-based optimizati ...

In this paper, we present a new method for upcycling concrete rubble waste into slender walls through the lightweight digital augmentation of mainstream construction machines. By using such method, the environmental impact of concrete construction and demo ...

Concrete rubble is among the most wasted materials worldwide. In this paper, we present a panorama of the upcycling potential of disused concrete rubble as construction material for new low-carbon structures. We identify 15 existing structural applications ...

Driven by the sustainability of the construction industry, concrete rubble is increasingly considered as a construction material rather than a waste. Analysing structures from such material through the conceptual tool of tectonics highlights a fertile grou ...

Reused concrete rubble is a challenging material to design and construct with despite its potential for diverging waste from landfilling and energyintensive recycling. We propose a design to construction framework that leverages a camera and computationall ...

This dataset contains the data, pipelines (in the form of .ghx files) and numerical results of the evaluation of diffCheck, an open-source scan-to-CAD comparison plugin for Rhino3D. The dataset is divided into two main compressed folders: Additive and `S ...

Deployable gridshells are a class of planar-to-spatial structures that achievea 3D curved geometry by inducing bending on a flat grid of elastic beams. However, theslender nature of these beams often conflicts with the structure’s load-bearing capacity. To ...

Crushing concrete liberated from demolished buildings to provide recycled aggregate is argued to be a sustainable way of reducing material extraction. Yet, in these high‐energy processes, large amounts of new cement is often used, negating this as a low‐ca ...

In construction robotics, a conventional design-to-fabrication work-flow starts with designing a structure, followed by task and robotic motion planning, and ultimately, fabrication. However, this approach can prove unsuccessful, as we may only discover th ...

In spatial timber assemblies, a multitude of factors can lead to errors that hinder the implementation of complete automation including but not limited to inaccuracies of the robotic setup, deformations of the structures during assembly, or the natural dim ...

In this case study, researcher and professor Stefana Parascho proposes that interactive and improvisational robotic fabrication can be a means to counteract what she perceives to be one of digital fabrication’s more detrimental fixations: optimization. In ...

Concrete rubble is currently a downcycled material whose upcycling remains under-explored and complex. This paper presents an accessible upcycling strategy to design and build slender structural masonry walls made from off-the-pile large demolition concret ...
