This paper investigates the potential impact of deep generative models on the work of creative professionals, specifically focusing on fashion design. We argue that current generative modeling tools lack critical features that would make them useful creati ...

Early predictors of student success are becoming a key tool in flipped and online courses to ensure that no student is left behind along course activities. However, with an increased interest in this area, it has become hard to keep track of what the state ...

This paper investigates the potential impact of deep generative models on the work of creative professionals. We argue that current generative modeling tools lack critical features that would make them useful creativity support tools, and introduce our own ...

Student success models might be prone to develop weak spots, i.e., examples hard to accurately classify due to insufficient representation during model creation. This weakness is one of the main factors undermining users' trust, since model predictions cou ...

Generative AI technologies are increasingly being incorporated into creativity support tools. However, most generative AI tools rely on text-based prompting, requiring users to translate visual ideas into linguistic descriptions. This approach is misaligne ...

Simulation is a powerful approach that plays a significant role in science and technology. Computational models that simulate learner interactions and data hold great promise for educational technology as well. Amongst others, simulated learners can be use ...

Interactive simulations enhance science education and foster inquiry skills, but their open-ended nature can be cognitively overloading. While adaptive systems offer timely support, research on predicting conceptual understanding in these environments is l ...

Revision behavior in adaptive writing support systems is an important and relatively new area of research that can improve the design and effectiveness of these tools, and promote students' self-regulated learning (SRL). Understanding how these tools are u ...

The design and delivering of platforms for online education is fostering increasingly intense research. Scaling up education online brings new emerging needs related with hardly manageable classes, overwhelming content alternatives, and academic dishonesty ...

Team teaching in higher education can be challenging, especially for educators managing large classes with limited pedagogical training and few opportunities to reflect on their practices. Emerging sensing technologies and analytics can capture and analyse ...

Flipped classroom (FC) courses, where students complete pre-class activities before attending interactive face-to-face sessions, are becoming increasingly popular. However, many students lack the skills, resources, or motivation to effectively engage in pr ...

Feedback plays a crucial role in learning by helping individuals understand and improve their performance. Yet, providing timely, personalized feedback in higher education presents a challenge due to the large and diverse student population, often resultin ...

Natural Language Feedback (NLF) is an increasingly popular mechanism for aligning Large Language Models (LLMs) to human preferences. Despite the diversity of the information it can convey, NLF methods are often hand-designed and arbitrary, with little syst ...

Interactive simulations allow students to independently ex- plore scientific phenomena and ideally infer the underlying principles through their exploration. Effectively using such environments is challenging for many students and there- fore, adaptive gui ...

Deep learning models for learning analytics have become increasingly popular over the last few years; however, these approaches are still not widely adopted in real-world settings, likely due to a lack of trust and transparency. In this paper, we tackle th ...

Self-regulated learning (SRL) has been extensively studied using self-reported measures, such as surveys, and more recently, behavioral measures, such as trace data. While both modalities offer insights into SRL, their relationship remains ambiguous. Altho ...

Current course recommender systems primarily leverage learner-course interactions, course content, learner preferences, and supplementary course details like instructor, institution, ratings, and reviews, to make their recommendation. However, these system ...

Learning journals are increasingly used in vocational education to foster self-regulated learning and reflective learning practices. However, for many apprentices, documenting working experiences is a difficult task. In this paper, we profile apprentices' ...

Flipped Classrooms (FC) are a promising teaching strategy, where students engage with the learning material before attending face-to-face sessions. While pre-class activities are critical for course success, many students struggle to engage effectively in ...

The increasing availability of Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) has created a necessity for personalized course recommendation systems. These systems often combine neural networks with Knowledge Graphs (KGs) to achieve richer representations of learners ...
