Electrolytic hydrogen is identified as a crucial component in the desired decarbonisation of the chemical industry, utilizing renewable energy to split water into hydrogen and oxygen. Water electrolysis still requires important scientific advances to impro ...

Magnetic field effects on electrocatalysis have recently gained attention due to the substantial enhancement of the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) on ferromagnetic catalysts. When detecting an enhanced catalytic activity, the effect of magnetic fields on ...

In this work, alkaline hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) processes of three typical nickel-based electrocatalysts [i.e., Ni, alpha-Ni(OH)(2), and beta-Ni(OH)(2)] were investigated to probe critical factors that determine the activity and durability. The HE ...

A sustainable future demands a successful transition from a carbon energy-dependent economy towards renewable energy schemes, many of which ultimately rely on the development of efficient electrocatalysis that either converts chemical energy into electrici ...

Efficient catalytic water splitting demands advanced catalysts to improve the slow kinetics of the oxygen evolution reaction (OER). Earth-abundant transition metal oxides show promising OER activity in alkaline media. However, most experimental information ...

Transition metal hexacyanometallates, so-called Prussian Blue Analogs (PBAs), have received massive attention as aqueous Na-ion battery electrode materials for large-scale energy storage systems not only due to their simple and low-cost synthesis procedure ...

Capturing the surface-structural dynamics of metal electrocatalysts under certain electrochemical environments is intriguingly desired for understanding the behavior of various metal-based electrocatalysts. However, in situ monitoring of the evolution of a ...

While solar-to-fuel catalysis requires the careful transfer of electrons, there are still challenges understanding how electron spin contributes to reactivity. Here, authors employ chiral fused thiadiazole-helicenes to control spin polarization in oxygen e ...

In the last decade, photo-assisted water splitting to generate hydrogen and oxygen has become a key process in the quest for clean energy technologies. In this context, the sluggish kinetics of the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) is still a limitation. The ...

Controlling product selectivity is essential for improving the efficiency of multi-product reactions. Electrochemical water oxidation is a reaction of main importance in different applications, e.g., renewable energy schemes and environmental protection, w ...
