Biofuels are considered as viable, sustainable and renewable alternatives to fossil fuels. One amongst them is biomethane which has emerged as one of the valuable contributors in facilitating the essential transition towards green energy sources. Industria ...

Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are a class of porous materials prepared by the self-assembly of metal ions or clusters with organic ligands. The unique characteristics of MOFs, including structural tunability, high surface areas, low densities and tailore ...

In this work, we report the synthesis of SION-8, a novel metal-organic framework (MOF) based on Ca(II) and a tetracarboxylate ligand TBAPy(4-) endowed with two chemically distinct types of pores characterized by their hydrophobic and hydrophilic properties ...

Biofuels are considered sustainable and renewable alternatives to conventional fossil fuels. Biobutanol has recently emerged as an attractive option compared to bioethanol and biodiesel, but a significant challenge in its production lies in the separation ...

Frustrated Lewis pairs (FLPs) consist of sterically hindered Lewis acids and Lewis bases, which provide high catalytic activity towards non-metal-mediated activation of "inert" small molecules, including CO2 among others. One critical issue of homogeneous ...

Metal organic frameworks (MOFs) are extended structures composed of a network of organic ligands and metal ions or clusters connected to each other via coordination bonds. The numerous choices of organic ligands and metal coordination geometries have led t ...

We investigate the synergy occurring in photocatalytic water splitting between the metal-organic framework MIL-125-NH(2)and two co-catalysts, namely NiO and Ni2P, by calculating their band edge alignment with respect to the redox levels of liquid water. Fo ...

Sustainable catalysts based on earth-abundant elements are considered as economical alternatives to precious-metal-bearing catalysts and could be impactful for many applications. Self-healing sustainable catalysts, which in addition to their 'green' charac ...

Limiting the increase of CO2 in the atmosphere is one of the largest challenges of our generation(1). Because carbon capture and storage is one of the few viable technologies that can mitigate current CO2 emissions(2), much effort is focused on developing ...

A strategy based on the use of ligand steric hindrance and metal doping is reported for the design and synthesis of near-infrared (NIR) emitting lanthanide-based metal-organic frameworks (MOFs). The lanthanide ions are free of coordinated solvents, and the ...

The photo-active MIL-125 and MIL-125-NH2 metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), despite having a very similar crystalline structure, exhibit different optical behaviors. Luminescence in MIL-125 decays in about 1 ns, while for its amino counterpart, the lifetime ...

The invention features metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) having a crystalline lattice comprising metallic nodes and organic ligands, wherein each organic ligand comprises a Lewis acidic or basic centre bound to N conjugated systems, wherein N is comprised be ...

Metal organic frameworks (MOFs) are increasingly used in applications that rely on the optical and electronic properties of these materials. These applications require a fundamental understanding on how the structure of these materials, and in particular t ...

Metal nanoparticles (NPs) are usually stabilized by a capping agent, a surfactant, or a support material, to maintain their integrity. However, these strategies can impact their intrinsic catalytic activity. Here, we demonstrate that the in-situ formation ...

Metal–organic frameworks (MOFs), a class of crystalline and porous materials, are synthesized through the self-assembly of organic ligands and inorganic metal nodes (ions or clusters). For the past few years, MOFs have been in the limelight due to their st ...

Prolonged consumption of water contaminated with fluoride ions (F-) at concentrations exceeding 1.5 ppm can lead to considerable health implications, particularly in children and developing embryos. With irreversible and potentially severe forms of fluorid ...

Herein, we present a new strategy to design metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) as adsorbents for ammonia (NH3) vapour. The linking ligand is functionalized with a sterically hindered Lewis acidic boron (B) centre, allowing efficient capture of NH3 and easy re ...

Methanation of carbon dioxide (CO2) is attractive within the context of a renewable energy refinery. Herein, we report an indirect methanation method that harnesses amino alcohols as relay molecules in combination with a catalyst comprising ruthenium nanop ...

In this work we present the in silico design of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) exhibiting 1-dimensional rod topologies. We introduce an algorithm for construction of this family of MOF topologies, and illustrate its application for enumerating MOF-74-type ...

We report the use of two earth abundant molybdenum sulfide-based cocatalysts, Mo(3)S(13)(2-)clusters and 1T-MoS2 nanoparticles (NPs), in combination with the visible-light active metal-organic framework (MOF) MIL-125-NH2 for the photocatalytic generation o ...
