This paper presents the first application to real JET data of the new equilibrium code NICE which enables the consistent resolution of the inverse equilibrium reconstruction problem in the framework of non-linear free-boundary equilibrium coupled to the St ...

Reliable algorithms for disruption avoidance and prediction are foreseen to play a fundamental role in the JET control system for the successful operation of the machine in the upcoming deuterium-tritium campaigns. The integration of such algorithms is exp ...

We revisit the isoperimetric inequalities for finitely generated groups introduced and studied by N. Varopoulos, T. Coulhon and L. Saloff-Coste. Namely we show that a lower bound on the isoperimetric quotient of finite subsets in a finitely generated group ...

The electron temperature and density pedestals tend to vary in their relative radial positions, as observed in DIII-D (Beurskens et al 2011 Phys. Plasmas 18 056120) and ASDEX Upgrade (Dunne et al 2017 Plasma Phys. Control. Fusion 59 14017). This so-called ...

The impact of the finite grid size in SOLPS-ITER edge plasma simulations is assessed for JET H-mode discharges with a metal wall. For a semi-horizontal divertor configuration it is shown that the separatrix density is at least 30% higher when a narrow scra ...

G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) convert extracellular stimuli into intracellular signaling by coupling to heterotrimeric G proteins of four classes: Gi/o, Gq, Gs, and G12/13. However, our understanding of the G protein selectivity of GPCRs is incomplet ...

Recent studies (Maggi et al 2015 Nucl. Fusion 55 113031; Maggi et al 2017 Nucl. Fusion 57 116012) have shown that on JET with the Be/W ITER-like wall (JET-ILW) in high beta discharges with high D-2 gas rates, the inter-ELM temperature pedestal growth is sa ...

Deep mutational scanning is a powerful method for exploring the mutational fitness landscape of proteins. Its adaptation to anti-CRISPR proteins, which are natural CRISPR-Cas inhibitors and key players in the co-evolution of microbes and phages, facilitate ...

De novo protein design explores uncharted sequence and structure space to generate novel proteins not sampled by evolution. A main challenge in de novo design involves crafting “designable” structural templates to guide the sequence searches toward adoptin ...

Parallel heat flux calculations at the JET divertor have been based on the assumption that all incoming heat is due to the projection of the heat flux parallel to the magnetic line, q, plus a constant background. This simplification led to inconsistencies ...

The present invention concerns a computer-system-implemented method for predicting properties of a protein molecule, comprising the steps of: receiving an input representation of the protein molecule; applying a surface generator to produce a molecular sur ...

Fragment-based drug discovery has been an effective paradigm in early-stage drug development. An open challenge in this area is designing linkers between disconnected molecular fragments of interest to obtain chemically relevant candidate drug molecules. I ...

Engineering and characterizing proteins can be time-consuming and cumbersome, motivating the development of generalist CRISPR-Cas enzymes1–4 to enable diverse genome editing applications. However, such enzymes have caveats such as an increased risk of off- ...

A tritium imaging plate technique (TIPT) in combination with an electron-probe microscopic analysis (EPMA) were applied to examine tritium (T) retention characteristics in individual dust particles collected in the Joint European Torus with the ITER-like W ...

Fishbones are ubiquitous in high-performance JET plasmas and are typically considered to be unimportant for scenario design. However, during recent high-performance hybrid scenario experiments, sporadic and explosive fishbone oscillations with sawtooth rec ...

The analysis of the polarimetry measurements has the aim of validating models (De Marco and Segre 1972 Plasma Phys. 14 245), with a careful attention to the clarification of their limits of application. In this paper a new approximation method is introduce ...

The invention relates to activation by inhibitor release (AIR) switches and chemically disruptable heterodimers (CDH), their use in controlling cell signaling components, and their use for treatments and therapies. ...
