Drug type and dosing recommendation have been designed and optimized based on average response in the general population. Yet, there is significant inter-individual variability in drug response, which results in treatment inefficacy or adverse drug reactio ...

Background People with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) are at increased risk of low trauma fractures (LTFs). Published data on LTF incidence trends over time have not been uniform. This study sought to analyze LTF time trends in the Swiss HIV Cohort Stu ...

Fc receptor (FcR) genes collectively have copy number and allelic polymorphisms that have been implicated in multiple inflammatory and autoimmune diseases. This variation might also be involved in etiology of infectious diseases. The protective role of Fc- ...

People living with human immunodeficiency virus (PLWH) have significantly increased risk for cardiovascular disease in part due to inflammation and immune dysregulation. Clonal hematopoiesis of indeterminate potential (CHIP), the age-related acquisition an ...

Background Obesity is a major concern in people with HIV (PWH). How obesity and antiretroviral therapy (ART) are associated with specific metabolite profiles in PWH is not well described. Methods We included Swiss HIV Cohort Study participants aged ≥45 yea ...

Background. The role of primary immunodeficiencies (PID) in susceptibility to sepsis remains unknown. It is unclear whether children with sepsis benefit from genetic investigations. We hypothesized that sepsis may represent the first manifestation of under ...

Background.Type 2 diabetes (T2D) is among the most frequent comorbidities in people with HIV (PWH) and occurs more often in PWH than in people without HIV. Polygenic risk scores (PRS) can be used to summarize the genetic risk for T2D, but it is unknown to ...

The HIV-1 reservoir is the major hurdle to a cure. We here evaluate viral and host characteristics associated with reservoir size and long-term dynamics in 1,057 individuals on suppressive antiretroviral therapy for a median of 5.4 years. At the population ...

HIV-1 remains a global health crisis(1), highlighting the need to identify new targets for therapies. Here, given the disproportionate HIV-1 burden and marked human genome diversity in Africa(2), we assessed the genetic determinants of control of set-point ...

The introduction and widespread use of antiretroviral therapy against Human Immunodefi-ciency Virus (HIV) has had a remarkable effect on disease progression and the longevity of infected individuals. However, the establishment of a latent viral reservoir a ...

Krüppel-associated box (KRAB) domain-containing zinc finger proteins (KZFPs) are one of the largest groups of transcription factors encoded by tetrapods, with 378 members in human alone. KZFP genes are often grouped in clusters reflecting amplification by ...

Genomic imprinting is an epigenetic process regulated by germline-derived DNA methylation, causing parental origin-specific monoallelic gene expression. Zinc finger protein 57 (ZFP57) is critical for maintenance of this epigenetic memory during post-fertil ...

Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection is associated with an increased risk of non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL). Even in the era of suppressive antiretroviral treatment, HIV-infected individuals remain at higher risk of developing NHL compared to the gener ...

Some HIV controllers experience immunologic progression with CD4(+) T cell decline. We aimed to identify genetic factors associated with CD4(+) T cell lost in HIV controllers. A total of 561 HIV controllers were included, 442 and 119 from the International ...

Krüppel‐associated box (KRAB)‐containing zinc finger proteins (KZFPs) are encoded in the hundreds by the genomes of higher vertebrates, and many act with the heterochromatin‐inducing KAP1 as repressors of transposable elements (TEs) during early embryogene ...
