Cardinal motor symptoms in Parkinson's disease (PD) include bradykinesia, rest tremor and/or rigidity. This symptomatology can additionally encompass abnormal gait, balance and postural patterns at advanced stages of the disease. Besides pharmacological an ...

Spinal cord injury (SCI) induces haemodynamic instability that threatens survival(1-3), impairs neurological recovery(4,5), increases the risk of cardiovascular disease(6,7), and reduces quality of life(8,9). Haemodynamic instability in this context is due ...

Freezing of Gait (FOG) is a disabling motor symptom that affects a majority of individuals with advanced Parkinson's disease, severely limiting mobility, independence, and quality of life. Automatic methods for detecting FOG using the freeze index (FI) hav ...

Robotic exoskeletons provide programmable, consistent and controllable active therapeutic assistance to patients with neurological disorders. Here we introduce a prototype and preliminary experimental evaluation of a rehabilitative gait exoskeleton that en ...

Introduction Motor complication management is one of the main unmet needs in Parkinson's disease patients. Areas covered Among the most promising emerging approaches for handling motor complications in Parkinson's disease, adaptive deep brain stimulation s ...

The present disclosure provides a closed-loop system for real-time control of epidural and/or subdural electrical stimulation comprising means for applying to a subject neuromodulation with adjustable stimulation parameters, said means being operatively co ...

Neuromodulation of spinal sensorimotor circuits improves motor control in animal models and humans with spinal cord injury. With common neuromodulation devices, electrical stimulation parameters are tuned manually and remain constant during movement. We de ...

Closed-loop strategies for deep brain stimulation (DBS) are paving the way for improving the efficacy of existing neuromodulation therapies across neurological disorders. Unlike continuous DBS, closed-loop DBS approaches (cl-DBS) optimize the delivery of s ...

The present invention relates to a combined neuromodulation and/or neurostimulation system (10) for mitigating locomotor deficits of/or neuronal disorders, especially Parkinson's disease, said system (10) comprising: - at least one Deep Brain Stimulation ( ...

Methods and systems are provided for triggering electrical stimulation of a spinal cord during execution of a motor event. In one example, a method comprises monitoring motor cortex activity while execution of a desired motor movement is attempted during a ...

Objectives Rapid eye movement sleep behavior disorder (RBD) is a potentially harmful, often overlooked sleep disorder affecting up to 70% of Parkinson's disease patients. Current diagnosis relies on nocturnal video-polysomnography, which is an expensive an ...

Disruption of subthalamic nucleus dynamics in Parkinson's disease leads to impairments during walking. Here, we aimed to uncover the principles through which the subthalamic nucleus encodes functional and dysfunctional walking in people with Parkinson's di ...

People with late-stage Parkinson's disease (PD) often suffer from debilitating locomotor deficits that are resistant to currently available therapies. To alleviate these deficits, we developed a neuroprosthesis operating in closed loop that targets the dor ...

We introduce an open-access tool capable of automatically extracting the timing of gait events during unconstrained locomotion across different neuromotor impairments. The gait analysis interactive tool is conceived as an assistant for gait assessment stud ...
