The oxygen reduction reaction by decamethylferrocene (DMFc), triggered by hydrophilic metallic cations behaving as Lewis acids towards water molecules in a homogeneous organic phase reaction, was investigated using cyclic voltammetry at the water|1,2-dichl ...

Emulsification of immiscible two-phase fluids, i.e., one condensed phase dispersed homogeneously as tiny droplets in an outer continuous medium, plays a key role in medicine, food, chemical separations, cosmetics, fabrication of micro- and nanoparticles an ...

Functionalization of a soft or liquid-liquid interface by a one gold nanoparticle thick “nanofilm” provides a conductive pathway to facilitate interfacial electron transfer from a lipophilic electron donor to a hydrophilic electron acceptor in a process kn ...

The concept of efficient electrolysis by linking photoelectrochemical biphasic H2 evolution and water oxidation processes in the cathodic and anodic compartments of an H-cell, respectively, is introduced. Overpotentials at the cathode and anode are minimis ...

This paper focuses on contact electrification from thermodynamic equilibration of the electron electrochemical potentials of two conductors upon contact. The contact potential difference generated in bimetallic macro- and nanosystems, the Fermi level after ...

The water oxidation process in acidified water/acetonitrile mixtures was studied by cyclic voltammetry using fluorinated tin oxide (FTO) electrodes modified layer-by-layer with deposited bilayers of positively charged poly(diallyldimethylammonium chloride) ...

A widespread misconception in the lithium ion battery literature is the equality of the energy difference of HOMO and LUMO of the solvent with the electrochemical stability window. HOMO and LUMO are concepts derived from approximated electronic structure t ...

Chaotropes such as urea can break the structure of water, weakening the hydrophobic effect and reducing aggregation. Here, we investigated how the addition of urea affects the transfer of ions and cationic dyes across the interface between immiscible elect ...

The optical and morphological properties of lustrous metal self-healing liquid-like nanofilms were systematically studied towards different applications (e.g., optical mirrors or filters). These nanofilms were formed by a one-step self-assembly methodology ...

An all-vanadium dual circuit redox flow battery is an electrochemical energy storage system capable to function as a conventional battery, but also to produce hydrogen and perform desulfurization when surplus of electricity is available by chemical dischar ...

The formation and the dissociation of metal hydrides are key steps within the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) pathway for photochemical water splitting, but also impacts a wide range of other catalytic, industrial, and biochemical reactions. Herein, we d ...

When a metallic nanoparticle (NP) comes in close contact with an electrode, its Fermi level equilibrates with that of the electrode if their separation is less than the cut-off distance for electron tunnelling. In the absence of chemical reactions in solut ...

Molecular oxygen and hydrogen peroxide reduction by 1,2-diferrocenylethane (DFcE) was investigated at a polarized water/1,2-dichloroethane (W/DCE) interface. The overall reaction points to a proton-coupled electron transfer (PCET) mechanism, where the firs ...

Photo-ionic cells convert solar energy into redox fuels. Unlike in photovoltaic devices where the photo-induced charge transfer reactions occur at an electrode, the photoreaction takes place in one bulk solution of a biphasic liquid-liquid system, and the ...

Most syntheses of thiolate-protected metal nanoparticles (NPs) include a thermochemical step in which the as-prepared, polydisperse NPs are transformed to a narrower size distribution in a poorly understood process known as digestive ripening (DR). Previou ...

Herein, we present a simple microelectrode preparation methodology consisting in coating a platinum wire or a carbon fiber with a thin insulating Parylene C film (e.g. 1–10 μm), to produce SECM probes with a small and constant probe RG (i.e. ratio between ...

Charge transfer phenomena at the interface between two immiscible electrolyte solutions (ITIES) are electrochemical reactions taking place in soft media. Owing to their liquid nature, the ITIES shows a large panel of electrochemical reactions including ele ...

The Mn(III)/Mn(II) redox couple with a standard potential of +1.51 V vs . SHE has drawn interest for the design of V/Mn redox flow battery (RFB). However, Mn(III) disproportionation leads to a loss of capacity, an increase of pressure drop and electrode pa ...

In a battery system, an electrochemical cell has a first compartment containing a positive electrolyte with an electrode 2 at least partially immersed in the positive electrolyte containing the first redox active material, forming a positive half cell. A s ...
