In a recent study, the theory of pulse generation with fiber optical parametric amplification using sinusoidal (clock) intensity modulated pump was revisited [1]. This work showed that the pulses generated through such parametric interaction exhibit a shap ...

We propose and experimentally demonstrate a method based on Brillouin optical time-domain analysis to measure the longitudinal signal power distribution along phase-sensitive fiber-optical parametric amplifiers (PS-FOPAs). Experimental results show that th ...

The temporal Talbot effect describes the periodic self-imaging of an optical pulse train along dispersive propagation. This is well studied in the context of bright pulse trains, where identical or multiplied pulse trains with uniform bright waveforms can ...

We observe fiber fuse in tapered GeAsSe photonic crystal fibers (PCF) at around 7 MW∕cm2 of intra-core intensity. Vertically cleaved facets from the un-tapered regions and the tapered regions were imaged. The images show shallow voids of different shapes c ...

We present a narrow-linewidth second-harmonic source based on a laser diode injection locked to an optically poled silicon nitride microresonator. The device is a compact, highly-coherent dual-wavelength source, with high conversion efficiency up to 280%/W ...

We demonstrate broadband difference frequency generation by dispersion engineering in periodically-poled thin-film lithium niobate waveguides. In simulations, we show tunable signal bandwidth from 30 nm to 300 nm. Experimentally, we achieve idler generatio ...

We demonstrate an approach to dual-comb spectroscopy, based on dispersion engineered and ultra-broadband supercontinuum generation in photonic integrated nonlinear waveguides, and driven by low-noise fiber-laser combs. Both technologies arc statc-of-the-ar ...

We present a novel device consisting of two microring resonators coupled by the second-order nonlinear interaction. By independently controlling the microresonators' linear properties, we engineer efficient second-harmonic generation through photo-induced ...

Epsilon-near-zero (ENZ) materials, characterized by their near-zero permittivity, ease of fabrication, enhanced nonlinearity, and compatibility for nano-fabrication, have positioned themselves as alluring solutions for large-scale integrated systems-on-chi ...

Silicon nitride (Si3N4) is an ever-maturing integrated platform for nonlinear optics but mostly considered for third-order [chi(3)] nonlinear interactions. Recently, second-order [chi(2)] nonlinearity was introduced into Si3N4 via the photogalvanic effect, ...

We report trace-gas absorption spectroscopy based on the efficient generation of a 3.05μm dispersive wave in a Si3N4 waveguide pumped by a 2.09 μm femtosecond mode-locked fiber laser ...

The nonlinear coefficient and group velocity dispersion of a thulium-doped fiber near 2μm are evaluated via four-wave mixing. Nonlinearity of thulium-doped fiber can be used for the design of doped-fiber lasers in this spectral region. ...

On-chip coherent light generation has wide-ranging applications in metrology, spectroscopy, quantum optics, etc. In this study, we demonstrate the generation of coherent light from a silicon-nitride microring resonator using cascaded nonlinear processes. T ...

The centrosymmetric structure of stoichiometric silicon nitride inhibits the realization of second-order nonlinear processes in this low-loss, complementary-metal-oxide-semiconductor fabrication-compatible platform. Nevertheless, linear electro-optic modul ...

Quasi-phase-matching (QPM) has become one of the most common approaches for increasing the efficiency of nonlinear three-wave mixing processes in integrated photonic circuits. Here, we provide a study of dispersion engineering of QPM second-harmonic (SH) g ...

Mode-locking and Q-switching are two widely used pulsing techniques based on different mechanisms. In practice, both lasing regimes can be realized within the same laser system, while the current research on their transition dynamics presents challenges in ...

All-optical poling leads to an effective second-order nonlinearity (chi((2))) in centrosymmetric materials without the need for sophisticated fabrication techniques or material processing, through the periodic self-organization of the charges. The absence ...

We report the first demonstration of a unidirectional, isolator-free 2-mmthulium-doped fiber (TDF) laser, relying on the properties of the theta cavity (ring resonator with S-shaped feedback). The core pumped theta cavity TDF laser provides sub-Watt output ...

High resolution and fast detection of molecular vibrational absorption is important for organic synthesis, pharmaceutical processes, and environmental monitoring, and is enabled by mid-infrared (mid-IR) laser frequency combs via dual-comb spectroscopy. Her ...

Thin-film lithium niobate (TFLN) on an insulator is a promising platform for nonlinear photonic integrated circuits (PICs) due to its strong light confinement, high second-order nonlinearity, and flexible quasi-phase-matching for three-wave mixing processe ...
