Chip -scale optical frequency combs enable the generation of highly -coherent pulsed light at gigahertz-level repetition rates, with potential technological impact ranging from telecommunications to sensing and spectroscopy. In combination with techniques ...

All-optical poling enables reconfigurable and efficient quasi-phase-matching for second-order parametric frequency conversion in silicon nitride integrated photonics. Here, we report broadly tunable milliwatt-level second-harmonic generation in a small fre ...

Poling the bottom of etched LNOI waveguides enables modal phase matching with an antisymmetric mode and a measured second harmonic generation efficiency of 1980 %W-1cm-2. The simple design allows for reproducible on-chip frequency conversion. ...

Quasi-phase-matching (QPM) is a widely adopted technique for mitigating stringent momentum conservation in nonlinear optical processes such as second-harmonic generation (SHG). It effectively compensates for the phase velocity mismatch between optical harm ...

We present a theoretical and numerical model to show how the nonreciprocal coupling in a generalized resonator affects the balance between the reflected and intracavity power as well as the time-bandwidth product of the system. (C) 2020 The Author(s) ...

In this paper, we review a method to produce optical sinc-shaped Nyquist pulses with unprecedented quality. The method is based on the synthesis of a rectangular shaped and phase-locked frequency comb from a combination of intensity modulators. The result ...

Silicon nitride has recently attracted significant interest for nonlinear integrated optics. In addition to its excellent linear properties, silicon nitride offers a bandgap larger than silicon, and a wide transparency window spanning from the visible all ...

Quasi-phase-matching has long been a widely used approach in nonlinear photonics, enabling efficient parametric frequency conversions such as second-harmonic generation. However, in silicon photonics the task remains challenging, as materials best suited f ...

The time-bandwidth limit is a mathematical tenet that affects all reciprocal resonators, stating that the product of the spectral bandwidth that can couple into a resonant system and its characteristic energy decay time is always equal to 1. Here, we devel ...

We report the first, to our knowledge, observation of the nonlinear phenomenon known as modulation instability (MI) in a coherently driven fiber resonator pumped at 1972 nm. To compensate for the very high losses in this spectral region, we have integrated ...

Nonlinear epsilon-near-zero (ENZ) nanodevices featuring vanishing permittivity and CMOS-compatibility are attractive solutions for large-scale-integrated systems-on-chips. Such confined systems with unavoidable heat generation impose critical challenges fo ...

Silicon nitride has emerged as a prominent platform for building photonics integrated circuits. While its nonlinear properties based on third-order effects have been successfully exploited, an efficient second harmonic generation in standard stoichiometric ...

We demonstrate operation of a tunable mode-locked thulium-doped fiber laser, based on a wavelength-selective chirped fiber Bragg grating (CFBG). By applying strain to the CFBG, we shift its reflection band and can thereby tune the emission-wavelength of th ...

We propose radiofrequency filters using solitons generated from Si3N4 microresonators. By leveraging inherent diverse solitons states, we show filter tunability achieved without the need for external pulse shaping, establishing an essential step towards re ...

We present a theoretical vectorial model, validated by experimental measurements, describing the dependence of the Figure-9 laser output power, operating in continuous wave, on the coupling ratio of the directional coupler. ...

Stoichiometric silicon nitride (Si3N4) constitutes a mature platform for integrated photonics. Its pertinent properties, including wide transparency window from the visible to the mid-IR, low propagation loss, and high third-order nonlinearity, are exploit ...

We propose and experimentally demonstrate an all-optical Nyquist sinc-shaped pulse train source based on intensity modulation and four-wave mixing. The proposed scheme allows for the tunability of the bandwidth and the full flexibility of the repetition ra ...

A novel method using optical fiber parametric amplification and phase modulation is proposed in order to generate Nyquist pulses. Using parabolic pulses as a pump, we show theoretically that it is possible to generate Nyquist pulses. Furthermore, we show t ...

Silicon nitride (Si3N4) is commonly employed to integrate third-order nonlinear optical processes on a chip. Its amorphous state, however, inhibits significant second-order nonlinear response. Recently, second-harmonic generation enhancement has been obser ...

We demonstrate 1.5W sub-picosecond pulsed source near 2μm. Cavity-less source is based on integrated association of 3rd order Raman wavelength-shifting and thulium amplification. Coherent spectrum of 61.5nm with 49% pump power conversion efficiency is achi ...
