Biological membranes exhibit the ability to self-repair and dynamically change their shape while remaining impermeable. Yet, these defining features are difficult to reconcile with mechanical robustness. Here, we report on the spontaneous formation of a ca ...

Nanostructured carbonaceous materials, that is, carbon materials with a feature size on the nanometer scale and, in some cases, functionalized surfaces, already play an important role in a wide range of emerging fields, such as the search for novel energy ...

Aluminum alloys are used in advanced engineering applications as they possess a combination of favorable properties, including high strength, lightweightness, good corrosion resistance, machineability, and recyclability. Such applications often require for ...

The plastic waste crisis is among humanity’s most urgent challenges. However, widespread adoption of sustainable plastics is hindered by their often inadequate processing characteristics and performance. Here, we introduce a bio-inspired strategy for the m ...

Organic nanowires are important building blocks for nanoscopic organic electronic devices. In order to ensure efficient charge transport through such nanowires, it is important to understand in detail the molecular parameters that guide self-assembly of pi ...

The invention relates to a polyamide material containing a polyamide as the matrix polyamide and fibrillar polyamide particles, wherein at least 10 vol.% of the fibrillar polyamide particles, based on the total volume of the fibrillar polyamide particles, ...

The invention describes a composition containing a) a functionalized polymer (10) that comprises at least one polymer segment (13) and at least two polymer aggregating segments (11,12) capable of forming non-covalent bonds based on a supramolecular interac ...

Benzenetricarboxamide (BTA) derivatives are versatile compounds widely employed as nucleating agents in commercial semicrystalline plastics and as supramolecular ligands in self-assembling telechelic polymer-based organogels, hydrogels, and bulk elastomers ...

Semiaromatic polyamides are used for metal replacementin advancedengineering applications to reduce weight and improve efficiency, but their range of application is limited by their inherent lack ofductility and toughness. Here, we combined semiaromatic pol ...

Copolymerizing poly(hexamethylene terephthalamide-co-isophthalamide) (PA6TI) with 40 wt% polyamide 66 (PA66) results in only minor decreases in modulus and yield stress owing to isomorphous substitution of PA6TI units by PA66 units in the PA6TI alpha phase ...

The development of low-temperature carbonization procedures promises to provide novel nanostructured carbon materials that are of high current interest in materials science and technology. Here, we report a "wet-chemical" carbonization method that utilizes ...

Oligoynes with two or more conjugated carbon-carbon triple bonds are useful precursors for carbon-rich nanomaterials. However, their range of app0lications has so far been severly limited by the challenging syntheses, particularly in the case of oligoynes ...

Characterizing the complex structure of such molecules with highly resolving, vacuum-based methods like scanning probe microscopy requires their transfer into the gas phase and further onto an atomically clean surface in ultrahigh vacuum without causing ad ...

Various blends of polymers are disclosed, comprising oligopeptide functionalised polymers such as polyisobutylene and polystyrene. Mono-functionalised and di-functionalised polymers (each containing 0 to 5 peptide units beyond its terminal amide group) may ...

Vibrational circular dichroism (VCD) spectroscopy has become an excellent tool to study biological nanostructures and biomimetic materials in their functional environment and is thus complementary to otherwise employed diffraction, imaging, and spectroscop ...

A series of symmetrically and unsymmetrically substituted octa-2,4,6-triyne-1,8-diol derivatives with benzoyl, 4-dodecyloxybenzoyl, as well as perfluorobenzoyl substituents were prepared and investigated with respect to their crystal structures and topoche ...

We developed MUSIC-mode atomic force microscopy (AFM) to emulate intermittent contact mode AFM without a feedback loop and in the absence of lateral forces. This single-pass approach is based On maps of amplitude-phase-distance curves and allows the height ...

The invention relates to a rail pad (10, lOa-v, 10α-η) comprising: a) a pad matrix (1) comprising a first material and b) at least one damping element (2) at least partially encapsulated or embedded in the pad matrix (1), said damping element (2) comprisin ...
