We propose the use of a high-refractive index glass microsphere in combination with a conventional fluorescence microscope for imaging sub-cellular organelles and biomolecules. The microsphere is placed on a sample that is immersed in water, collects the n ...

Various tumors develop addiction to glutamine to support uncontrolled cell proliferation. Here we identify the nuclear receptor liver receptor homolog 1 (LRH-1) as a key regulator in the process of hepatic tumorigenesis through the coordination of a noncan ...

Defects in axonal transport are thought to contribute to the pathogenesis of neurodegenerative disease. Because -tubulin acetylation facilitates axonal transport, inhibition of the -tubulin deacetylating enzymes, histone deacetylase 6 (Hdac6) and silent in ...

Across eukaryotic species, mild mitochondrial stress can have beneficial effects on the lifespan of organisms. Mitochondrial dysfunction activates an unfolded protein response (UPR(mt)), a stress signaling mechanism designed to ensure mitochondrial homeost ...

Several laboratories, including ours, have employed the Slc25a47tm1c(EUCOMM)Hmgu mouse model to investigate the role of SLC25A47, a hepatocyte-specific mitochondrial carrier, in regulating hepatic metabolism and systemic physiology. In this study, we revea ...

The AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) is a key regulator of catabolic versus anabolic processes. Its properties as an energy sensor allow it to couple the energy status of the cell to the metabolic environment. These adaptations not only take place throu ...

This Workflow contains all the material necessary to reproduce the results of the QuPath analysis performed in the paper "Inhibition of CERS1 in aging skeletal muscle exacerbates age-related muscle impairments" Inside this workflow and dataset, you will f ...

Discovered in the beginning of the 20(th) century, nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD(+)) has evolved from a simple oxidoreductase cofactor to being an essential cosubstrate for a wide range of regulatory proteins that include the sirtuin family of NAD ...

Epigenetic regulation of gene expression is strongly influenced by the accessibility of nucleosomal DNA or the state of chromatin compaction. In this context, coregulators, including both coactivators and corepressors, are pivotal intermediates that bridge ...

Adult stem cells (SCs) are essential for tissue maintenance and regeneration yet are susceptible to senescence during aging. We demonstrate the importance of the amount of the oxidized form of cellular nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD(+)) and its imp ...

Background: Nicotinamide riboside (NR) is an NAD(+) precursor that boosts cellular NAD(+) concentrations. Preclinical studies have shown profound metabolic health effects after NR supplementation. ...

The invention relates to plasma or liver lipid species selected from the triacylglycerol (TAG) and cardiolipin (CL) lipid classes measured by LC-MS/MS and use thereof as diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers of fatty liver, as well as to monitor the efficac ...

BACKGROUND & AIMS: Bile reflux contributes to development of Barrett's esophagus (BE) and could be involved in its progression to esophageal adenocarcinoma (EAC). We investigated whether bile acids affect levels or functions of microRNAs (MIRs) 221 and 222 ...

How lifespan and body weight vary as a function of diet and genetic differences is not well understood. Here we quantify the impact of differences in diet on lifespan in a genetically diverse family of female mice, split into matched isogenic cohorts fed a ...

The functions of many eukaryotic genes are still poorly understood. Here, we developed and validated a new method, termed GeneBridge, which is based on two linked approaches to impute gene function and bridge genes with biological processes. First, Gene-Mo ...

Brown adipose tissue plays a central role in the regulation of the energy balance by expending energy to produce heat. NAD(+)-dependent deacylase sirtuins have widely been recognized as positive regulators of brown adipose tissue thermogenesis. However, he ...

Aims: Sirtuin 7 (SIRT7) plays an important role in tumor development, and has been characterized as a potent regulator of cellular stress. However, the effect of SIRT7 on sorafenib acquired resistance remains unclear and a possible anti-tumor mechanism bey ...

The ability to respond to fluctuations of reactive oxygen species (ROS) within the cell is a central aspect of mammalian physiology. This dynamic process depends on the coordinated action of transcriptional factors to promote the expression of genes encodi ...

The ability to respond to various intracellular and/or extracellular stresses allows the organism to adapt to changing environmental conditions and drives evolution. It is now well accepted that a progressive decline of the efficiency of stress response pa ...

The link between Akt activation and gluconeogenic repression remains unclear, despite many years of investigation and remarkable progress. Rodgers and colleagues now introduce us to the Clk2 kinase, an Akt substrate that can directly phosphorylate and inhi ...
