Dissipative Kerr solitons have paved the way to broadband and fully coherent optical frequency combs in microresonators. Here, we demonstrate numerically that slow frequency tuning of the pump laser in conjunction with phase or amplitude modulation corresp ...

We experimentally demonstrate the possibility of dispersive wave tuning via advanced dispersion engineering. We utilize hybridized modes of concentric coupled resonators for precise control of the dispersion profile. (C) 2019 The Author(s) ...

Silicon nitride (Si3N4) has emerged as a promising material for integrated nonlinear photonics and has been used for broadband soliton microcombs and low-pulse-energy supercontinuum generation. Therefore, understanding all nonlinear optical properties of S ...

Microwave photonic technologies, which upshift the carrier into the optical domain, have facilitated the generation and processing of ultra-wideband electronic signals at vastly reduced fractional bandwidths. For microwave photonic applications such as rad ...

In general, space-time wave packets with correlations between transverse spatial fields and temporal frequency spectra can lead to unique spatiotemporal dynamics, thus enabling control of the instantaneous light properties. However, spatiotemporal dynamics ...

Quantum mechanics imposes a limit on the precision of a continuous position measurement of a harmonic oscillator, due to backaction arising from quantum fluctuations in the measurement field. This standard quantum limit can be surpassed by monitoring only ...

We demonstrate a hybrid photonic integrated laser with intrinsic linewidth of 40 Hz, while offering megahertz actuation bandwidth with the tuning range larger than 1 GHz, attained by a DFB laser self-injection locking to a high-Q Si3N4 microresonator with ...

In a LIDAR device (100) a laser light source (110) generates first laser light having a first laser frequency which is frequency modulated with a first frequency modulation. A non-linear optical element (120) receives the first laser light and generates th ...

Exceptional points are a ubiquitous concept widely present in driven-dissipative coupled systems described by a non-Hermitian Hamiltonian. To date, exceptional points have been extensively examined in the systems supporting only a few optical modes, thereb ...

We show that optical microcavities drive strong coherent modulations the in co-propagating free-electron beams, with sidebands spanning over 700eV from a sub-mu m-long interaction. The electrons probe the cavity's ringdown time and distinguish the modes sp ...

Electronic analog to digital converters (ADCs) are run-ning up against the well-known bit depth versus bandwidth trade off. Towards this end, radio frequency (RF) photonic-enhanced ADCs have been the subject of interest for some time. Optical frequency com ...

We experimentally demonstrate KK detection of four 20-Gbaud 16-QAM channels after 50-km transmission using two soliton Kerr combs at transmitter and receiver. The frequency comb coherence enables a shared phase noise estimation among multiple channels. (C) ...

Cavity-enhanced radiation-pressure coupling of optical and mechanical degrees of freedom gives rise to a range of optomechanical phenomena, in particular providing a route to the quantum regime of mesoscopic mechanical oscillators. A prime challenge in cav ...

Silicon nitride has emerged as a prominent platform for building photonics integrated circuits. While its nonlinear properties based on third-order effects have been successfully exploited, an efficient second harmonic generation in standard stoichiometric ...

We observe CW-driven electron-photon interaction using a fiber-integrated high-Q Si3N4 microresonator, enabled by strong resonantly enhanced coupling with the confined optical mode. (C) 2021 The Author(s) ...

We demonstrate wafer-scale processing of integrated photonic circuits made of gallium phosphide, with propagation losses in waveguides as low as 0.40 dB/cm, and establish new record-high quality factors with resonators on this material platform. ...

Sideband asymmetry between the Stokes and anti-Stokes scattering is a signature of the mechanical oscillators in the quantum regime. It has been demonstrated in several optomechanical systems, as a self-calibrated thermometry method. We present motional si ...

We experimentally insert a flexible number of electro-optical (EO) comb lines into a Kerr frequency comb via EO modulation and demonstrate the use of combined Kerr and EO combs as light sources in coherent communications. The number of EO lines inserted in ...

The generation of dissipative Kerr solitons in optical microresonators allow compact high repetition rate frequency combs. A particularly promising platform is photonic integrated Si3N4 microresonators. Yet to date, soliton formation in Si3N4 microresonato ...

Thermodynamic noise places a fundamental limit on the frequency stability of dielectric optical resonators. Here, we present the characterization of thermorefractive noise in photonic-chip-based silicon-nitride (Si3N4) microresonators and show that thermor ...
