Continuous-wave-driven Kerr nonlinear microresonators give rise to self-organization in terms of dissipative Kerr solitons, which constitute optical frequency combs that can be used to generate low-noise microwave signals. Here, by applying either amplitud ...

Cavity optomechanical phenomena, such as cooling, amplification, or optomechanically induced transparency, emerge due to a strong imbalance in the dissipation rates of the parametrically coupled electromagnetic and mechanical resonators. Here we analyze th ...

Microcombs provide a path to broad-bandwidth integrated frequency combs with low power consumption, which are compatible with wafer-scale fabrication. Yet, electrically-driven, photonic chip-based microcombs are inhibited by the required high threshold pow ...

We generate 100-GHz soliton microcombs in a photonic integrated high-Q Si3N4 microresonator using an ultra-compact, high-power and low-frequency-noise semiconductor-based laser. The soliton is initiated via direct current tuning of the laser. (C) 2019 The ...

The radiation-pressure interaction between one or more laser fields and a mechanical oscillator gives rise to a wide range of phenomena: From sideband cooling and backaction-evading measurements to ponderomotive and mechanical squeezing to entanglement and ...

We demonstrate an architecture for massively parallel frequency-modulated continuous wave (FMCW) laser ranging (LiDAR) by transferring linear chirps of a single narrow linewidth laser onto all soliton comb teeth though generation of a dissipative Kerr soli ...

Nonreciprocal devices, such as isolators, are required to protect sensitive superconducting quantum circuits. Growing research has focused on integrated alternatives to the existing bulky ferrite technologies. Here we realize a nonreciprocal isolator with ...

Monolayer transition-metal dichalcogenides with direct bandgaps are emerging candidates for optoelectronic devices, such as photodetectors, light-emitting diodes, and electro-optic modulators. Here we report a low-loss integrated platform incorporating mol ...

Combining optical gain in direct-bandgap III-V materials with tunable optical feedback offered by advanced photonic integrated circuits is key to chip-scale external-cavity lasers (ECL), offering wideband tunability along with low optical linewidths. Exter ...

Temporal dissipative solitons in a continuous-wave laser-driven nonlinear optical microresonator were observed. The solitons were generated spontaneously when the laser frequency was tuned through the effective zero detuning point of a high-Q resonance, wh ...

Optical laser fields have been widely used to achieve quantum control over the motional and internal degrees of freedom of atoms and ions(1,2), molecules and atomic gases. A route to controlling the quantum states of macroscopic mechanical oscillators in a ...
