Dissipative Kerr solitons in optical microresonators combine nonlinear optical physics with photonic-integrated technologies. They are promising for a number of applications ranging from optical coherent communications to astrophysical spectrometer calibra ...

We report on the use of low-loss Si3N4 waveguides for efficient frequency conversion tunable from the near infrared to the short-wave infrared. We achieve -15 dB conversion efficiency for 200 mW coupled pump power. ...

We demonstrate an optical arbitrary waveform measurement (OAWM) technique that exploits optical frequency combs as multi-wavelength local oscillators (LO) and that does not require any optical slicing filters. In a proof-of-concept experiment, we achieve r ...

We developed a chip-based silicon nitride platform with thick waveguides (> 2 mm) that overcomes the usual fabrication limitation. We demonstrate both microresonator frequency comb generation at 2:5 mm and supercontinuum generation extending beyond 4:0 mm ...

We characterize a low-phase-noise Kerr frequency comb for carrying data channels. Results show pump wavelength detuning region grows slightly at higher pump power and the phase noise stays relatively unchanged over pump wavelength detuning region. ...

The coupling of optical and mechanical degrees of freedom is the underlying principle of many techniques to measure mechanical displacement, from macroscale gravitational wave detectors to microscale cantilevers used in scanning probe microscopy. Recent ex ...

Stable and tunable integrated lasers are fundamental building blocks for applications from spectroscopy to imaging and communication. Here the authors present a narrow linewidth hybrid photonic integrated laser with low frequency noise and fast linear wave ...

We demonstrate a traveling wave parametric amplifier in a photonic Si3N4 integrated spiral waveguide of 2.0 m length with footprint 3x5 mm. We achieve net gain of 7 dB on-chip and 2 dB fiberto-fiber in the optical C-band. (C) 2022 The Author(s) ...

Periodically structured materials can sustain both optical and mechanical modes. Here we investigate and observe experimentally the optomechanical properties of a conventional two-dimensional suspended photonic crystal defect cavity with a mode volume of s ...

We report the design fabrication and characterization of a monolithic nano-optomechanical transducer comprised of high stress silicon nitride (Si3N4). Our system features a one dimensional Fabry-Perot photonic crystal cavity (Q approximate to 10(5)) integr ...

A Kerr frequency comb generated in an integrated silicon nitride microresonator is self-referenced using the 2f-3f approach. With an intrinsic bandwidth of two-thirds of an octave no additional, external broadening of the spectrum is required. ...

We realize an integrated hybrid optonanomechanical transducer for the detection of weak forces. We propose and demonstrate with our system that dissipative feedback dramatically decreases the averaging time necessary to detect an incoherent force. (C) 2011 ...

We show a novel architecture for massively parallel FMCW LiDAR based on multiheterodyne mixing of two triangular chirped soliton microcombs generated in integrated Si3N4 microresonators using a single laser source and a single coherent receiver. We demonst ...

We experimentally investigate the dependence of Kerr comb generation, comb linewidth, and coherent system performance on the pump linewidth in a microresonator. We find that the generation of the primary comb can have a larger tolerance to the pump linewid ...

We demonstrate an optically and electrically packaged silicon photonic receiver system for non-sliced optical arbitrary waveform measurement (OAWM). The OAWM engine is used for high-speed data transmission and for photonic-electronic analog-to-digital conv ...

We demonstrate for the first time a frequency-modulated continuous wave photonic integrated blue laser with sub-MHz linewidth. The laser exhibits frequency excursion greater than 900 MHz at up to 1 MHz triangular chirp rate with a nonlinearity of less than ...

A spectroscopy assembly having a first and a second optical ring resonator, each provided with a material having an intensity-dependent refraction index. The spectroscopy assembly further includes at least one waveguide, which is guided along the optical r ...
