We describe a new method for the intermolecular amination of the alpha-C-H bonds of ethers. A hypervalent iodine reagent was used as oxidant to enable the amination of cyclic and acyclic alkyl ethers with a wide range of amides, imides, and amines. The ami ...

NiII complexes of the new pincer amidobis(amine) ligand are described. The Ni chloride complex catalyzes Kumada-Corriu-Tamao coupling of unactivated alkyl halides with alkyl Grignard reagents, as well as double C-C coupling of CH2Cl2 with alkyl Grignard re ...

An organic photoredox catalyst, 4CzIPN, was used in combination with a copper catalyst, CuCl, to effect decarboxylative C(sp3)–N coupling. The coupling worked with both anilines and imines as nitrogen sources and could be used to prepare a variety of alkyl ...

A homologous Ni-Co based nanowire catalyst pair, composed of NixCo3-xO4 nanowires and NiCo/NiCoOx nanohybrid, is developed for efficient overall water splitting. NixCo3-xO4 nanowires are found as a highly active oxygen evolution reaction (OER) catalyst, an ...

The oxygen evolution reaction (OER) is a key process that enables the storage of renewable energies in the form of chemical fuels. Here, we describe a catalyst that exhibits turnover frequencies higher than state-of-the-art catalysts that operate in alkali ...

The synthesis, structure, and reactivity of small-molecule models of [Fe]-hydrogenase are described. These models feature the intriguing acylmethylpyridinyl ligands found exclusively in the enzyme. ...

In oxidative electrochemical organic synthesis, radical intermediates are often oxidized to cations on the way to final product formation. Herein, we describe an approach to transform electrochemically generated organic radical intermediates into neutral p ...

The hydroxide-exchange membrane fuel cell (HEMFC) is a promising energy conversion device. However, the development of HEMFC is hampered by the lack of platinum-group-metal-free (PGM-free) electrocatalysts for the hydrogen oxidation reaction (HOR). Now, a ...

Replacement of a dimethyl amino group of the amidobis(amine) nickel(II) pincer complex (1), [((N2N)-N-Me)-Ni-Cl], by a pyrrolidino group resulted in a new nickel(II) pincer complex (2), [((PNNN)-N-yr-N-Me)Ni-Cl]. Complex 2 is an efficient catalyst for Kuma ...

The greenhouse gas and energy carrier methane is produced on Earth mainly by methanogenic archaea. In the hydrogenotrophic methanogenic pathway the reduction of one CO2 to one methane molecule requires four molecules of H-2 containing eight electrons. Four ...

A simple and straightforward method has been developed for the direct carboxylation of aromatic heterocylces such as oxazoles, thiazoles, and oxadiazoles using CO2 as the C1 source. The reactions require no metal catalyst and only Cs2CO3 as the base. A goo ...

Several imidazolium-based ionic liquids significantly enhance the activity of MoO2 for electrochemical reduction of CO2. The over-potential of CO2 reduction is as low as 40 mV. The ionic liquids act as both electrolytes and co-catalysts, which not only lea ...

The synthesis, structure, and reactivity of a five-coordinate model complex of [Fe]-hydrogenase are described. The work suggests that the iron center in [Fe]-hydrogenases could be five-coordinate in the resting state. ...

Electrochemical CO reduction can potentially serve as an intermediate step for the efficient conversion of CO2 to chemical fuels using renewable electricity. Although membrane electrode assembly (MEA) CO electrolyzers are industrially relevant, they curren ...

Iron-catalyzed hydrogenation has drawn much attention, yet the scope and chemoselectivity of iron catalysis warrant further improvement. Here we report new iron pincer complexes as chemoselective hydrogenation and transfer hydrogenation catalysts. Several ...

An improved synthesis of pincer ligand bis[(2-dimethylamino)phenyl]amine (MeN2NH) was reported. Reaction of the Li complex of MeN2N with suitable Pd, Pt, and Ru precursors gave the corresponding metal complexes. The structures of the Pd, Pt, and Ru complex ...

The direct formic acid fuel cell is an emerging energy conversion device for which palladium is considered as the state-of-the-art anode catalyst. In this communication, we show that the activity and stability of palladium for formic acid oxidation can be ...

The first Ni-catalyzed Suzuki-Miyaura coupling of alkyl halides with alkenyl-(9-BBN) reagents is reported. Both primary and secondary alkyl halides including alkyl chlorides can be coupled. The coupling method can be combined with hydroboration of terminal ...

Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy is used to identify a slow electron transport process in hydrogen evolution catalysed by amorphous molybdenum sulphides on glassy carbon. A new chemical synthesis leads to an amorphous molybdenum sulfide catalyst with ...

Copper-catalyzed direct alkylation of benzoxazoles using nonactivated secondary alkyl halides has been developed. The best catalyst is a new copper(I) complex (1), and the reactions are promoted by bis[2-(N,N-dimethylamino)ethyl] ether. ...
