We address the degeneracy of the ground state multiplet on the 5d(1) Re6+ ion in double perovskite Ba2MgReO6 using a combination of specific heat measurements and density functional calculations. For Ba2MgReO6, two different ground state multiplets have pr ...

Exotic quantum phases, arising from a complex interplay of charge, spin, lattice and orbital degrees of freedom, are of immense interest to a wide research community. A well-known example of such an entangled behavior is the Jahn-Teller effect, where the l ...

Dinuclear clathrochelate complexes with two, three, four, or five cyano groups in the ligand periphery were prepared following two distinct synthetic strategies: (a) zinc(II)- or cobalt(II)-templated polycondensation reactions of CN-functionalized arylboro ...

We report magnetic properties of a 3d(9) (Cu2+) magnetic insulator Cu2OSO4 measured on both powder and single crystal. The magnetic atoms of this compound form layers whose geometry can be described either as a system of chains coupled through dimers or as ...

Topological spin textures such as skyrmions hold high potential for use as magnetically active elements in diverse near-future applications. While skyrmions in metallic multilayers attract great attention in this context, unleashing the myriad potential of ...

Synthetic studies of bimetallic uranium nitride complexes with the N(SiMe3)(2) ligand have generated a new nitride complex of U(III), which is highly reactive toward C-H bonds and H-2. Treatment of the previously reported U(IV)/U(IV) nitride complex [Na(DM ...

In this study, we identify EuCd2X2 (for X = P, As, Sb) as a series of magnetic semiconductors. We examine how the band gap of the series responds to X changing from phosphorus (P), to arsenic (As), and finally antimony (Sb). We characterize the samples usi ...

We report on temperature dependence of two-phonon Raman spectra in BiFeO3 nanocrystals, above and below the Neel temperature T-N using a resonant laser excitation line (lambda = 532 nm). Two-phonon modes exhibited anomalous frequency hardening and deviatio ...

Topological defects are found ubiquitously in various kinds of matter, such as vortices in type-II superconductors, and magnetic skyrmions in chiral ferromagnets. While knowledge on the static behavior of magnetic skyrmions is accumulating steadily, their ...

Clarifying the underlying mechanisms that govern ordering transitions in condensed matter systems is crucial for comprehending emergent properties and phenomena. While transitions are often classified as electronically driven or lattice-driven, we present ...

We have used inelastic neutron scattering to measure the magnetic excitation spectrum along the high-symmetry directions of the first Brillouin zone of the magnetic skyrmion hosting compound Cu2OSeO3. The majority of our scattering data are consistent with ...

Thesynthesis of molecular uranium complexes in oxidation stateslower than +3 remains a challenge despite the interest for their multielectrontransfer reactivity and electronic structures. Herein, we report theone- and two-electron reduction of a U(III) com ...

The synthesis of lanthanides other than cerium in the oxidation state +IV has remained a desirable but unmet target until recently, when two examples of Tb-IV with saturated coordination spheres were isolated. Here we report the third example of an isolate ...

Complexes of uranium(ii) remain extremely rare and their reactivity is practically unexplored. Here we report that the reduction of the heteroleptic bis-aryloxide U(iii) complex [U(κ6-{(tBu2ArO)2Me2-cyclam})I], A, yields a rare and highly reactive U(ii) in ...

The recent discovery of magnetic skyrmion lattices initiated a surge of interest in the scientific community. Several novel phenomena have been shown to emerge from the interaction of conducting electrons with the skyrmion lattice, such as a topological Ha ...

The topological Hall effect (THE) is a hallmark of a non-trivial geometric spin arrangement in a magnetic metal, originating from a finite scalar spin chirality (SSC). The associated Berry phase is often a consequence of non-coplanar magnetic structures id ...

Magnetic dynamics of a bulk ferromagnet, a new single crystalline compound Co-7(TeO3)(4)Br-6, was studied by ac susceptibility and related techniques. Very large Arrhenius activation energy of 17.2 meV (201 K) and long attempt time (2 x 10(-4) s) span the ...

Quantum spin liquids (QSLs) have become a key area of research in magnetism due to their remarkable properties, such as long-range entanglement, fractional excitations, and topologically protected phenomena. Recently, the search for QSLs has expanded into ...

The dinitrogen (N2) chemistry of lanthanides remains less developed compared to the d-block metals and lanthanide-promoted N2 functionalization chemistry in well-defined lanthanide complexes remains elusive. Here we report the synthesis and characterizatio ...

Dark blue single crystals of Al1.753+Ti1.04+Ti0.253+O5 were grown with a novel synthesis method based on the reaction of a Ti3+/Ti4+-containing langbeinite melt and porous alpha-alumina crucible. The obtained needles crystallize in the pseudobrookite struc ...
