The direct conversion of solar energy into chemical fuels, such as hydrogen, via photoelectrochemical (PEC) water splitting requires the efficient oxidation of water at a photoanode. While transition metal oxides have shown a significant success as photoan ...

We report panchromatic light harvesting in hybrid TiO2/P3HT photovoltaic devices using a porphyrin dye that complements the light absorption of P3HT. The high short circuit photocurrent (12.1 mA cm(-2)) obtained is found to be due, in part, to Forster reso ...

A series of TaOxNy photoelectrodes were deposited on F:SnO2 (FTO) substrates by DC reactive sputtering at room temperature, under a mixture of Ar, N-2 and O-2. The effects of the O-2 partial pressure during deposition (Po-2) on the films crystallinity, the ...

Developing facile approaches to prepare non-light-scattering ternary oxide thin film photoelectrodes is an important goal for solar water splitting tandem cells. Herein, a novel synthesis route is reported that employs ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA ...

A photo-assisted electrodeposition approach was used to deposit a cobalt-phosphate water oxidation catalyst ("Co-Pi") onto recently improved dendritic mesostructures of alpha-Fe2O3. A comparison between this approach, electrodeposition of Co-Pi, and Co2+ w ...

Interest in delafossite (CuFeO2) as a candidate p-type photocathode for photoelectrochemical (PEC) solar fuel production has recently been increasing, mainly due to its excellent stability in aqueous environments and favorable light absorption properties. ...

Understanding the crystallization process of organic-inorganic halide perovskites is of paramount importance for fabrication of reproducible and efficient perovskite solar cells. We report for the first time on the discovery and interplay of ubiquitous hex ...

The onset potential of photoelectrochemical water oxidation on ultrathin hematite was improved by up to 200 mV by the chemical bath deposition of 13-group oxides as overlayers. It is proposed that the corundum-type overlayers released lattice strain of the ...

Tin disulfide (SnS2) is attracting significant interest because of the abundance of its elements and its excellent optoelectronic properties in part related to its layered structure. In this work, we specify the preparation of ultrathin SnS2 nanoplates (NP ...

Ternary bulk heterojunctions with cascade-type energy-level configurations are of significant interest for further improving the power conversion efficiency (PCE) of organic solar cells. However, controlling the self-assembly in solution-processed ternary ...

p-Type delafossite CuFeO2 has recently been reported as a promising candidate for direct photoelectrochemical solar water reduction in alkaline conditions. However, despite its favorable optical band gap energy and light absorption, this material suffers f ...

Metal halide perovskites (MHPs) have shown an incredible increase in efficiency, reaching as high as 25.7%, which now competes with traditional photovoltaic technologies. Herein, we excluded CsX and RbX (X = I–, Br–, Cl–), the most commonly used cations to ...

WSe2-a layered semiconductor that can be exfoliated into atomically thin two-dimensional sheets-offers promising characteristics for application in solar energy conversion. However, the lack of controllable, cost-effective methods to scalably fabricate hom ...

Anodization of a-Fe2O3 (hematite) electrodes in alkaline electrolyte under constant potential conditions the electrode surface in a way that an additional current wave occurs in the cyclic voltammogram. The energy position of this current wave is closely b ...

The efficient and inexpensive conversion of solar energy into chemical bonds, such as in H2 via the photoelectrochemical splitting of H2O, is a promising route to produce green industrial feedstocks and renewable fuels, which is a key goal of the NCCR Cata ...

Cu2ZnSnS4 (CZTS) colloidal inks were employed to prepare thin-film photocathodes that served as a model system to interrogate the effect of different surface treatments, viz. CdS, CdSe, and ZnSe buffer layers along with methylviologen (MV) adsorption, on t ...

Additive engineering has been a crucial strategy to improve photovoltaic properties by reducing carrier trap centers or increasing carrier diffusion lengths in the lead halide perovskite active layer. We introduced a small amount of CH3NH3 +NO3 - (methylam ...

Development of cost-effective oxygen evolution catalysts is of capital importance for the deployment of large-scale energy-storage systems based on metal-air batteries and reversible fuel cells. In this direction, a wide range of materials have been explor ...

LaTiO2N photoanodes for solar water splitting were prepared by electrophoretic deposition and demonstrated the best photo-currents ever reported for this material. Further important enhancement of the performance was obtained by the use of a sputtered In2O ...

LaFeO3 (LFO) is recognized as a candidate material for solar water oxidation, but its photoelectrochemical response remains modest and stagnant. With the aim of advancing LFO photoanodes for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER), here, a nanorod array-type e ...
