One of the promising methods to solve the current energyand environmentissues is photoelectrochemical (PEC) water splitting and CO2 reduction reaction. Chalcopyrite copper indium gallium sulfide (CIGS)and CuIn0.3Ga0.7S2 nanocrystal thinfilms have been cons ...

Solution processable organic semiconductors are well-established as high-performance materials for inexpensive and scalable solar energy conversion in organic photovoltaic (OPV) devices, but their promise in the economic conversion of solar energy into che ...

We present a quaterthiophene and sexithiophene that can reversibly change their effective pi-conjugation length through photoexcitation. The reported compounds make use of light-responsive molecular actuators consisting of an azobenzene attached to a bithi ...

We study hematite (alpha-Fe2O3) photoelectrodes for water splitting by examining the fate of photogenerated holes. Using H2O2 as an efficient hole scavenger, we collect all holes that arrive at the electrode/electrolyte interface. This provides the ability ...

Layered halide perovskites (LHPs) are emerging semiconductor materials due to their superior environmental stability compared to that of traditional halide perovskites. While LHPs have tunable optoelectronic properties, quantum and dielectric confinement e ...

Incorporating extended pi-conjugated organic cations in layered lead halide perovskites is a recent trend promising to merge the fields of organic semiconductors and lead halide perovskites. Herein, we integrate benzodithiophene (BDT) into Ruddlesden–Poppe ...

Given the limitations of the materials available for photoelectrochemical water splitting, a multiphoton (tandem) approach is required to convert solar energy into hydrogen efficiently and durably. Here we investigate a promising system consisting of a hem ...

As organic semiconductors attract increasing attention to application in the fields of bioelectronics and artificial photosynthesis, understanding the factors that determine their robust operation in direct contact with aqueous electrolytes becomes a criti ...

The performance of ZnFe2O4 photoanodes largely depends on their nanostructure, crystallinity and n-type doping, though decoupling their impact on photoactivity remains a challenge. Herein, the combined effects of the synthesis temperature and reductive ann ...

The development of solution-processable routes to prepare efficient photoelectrodes for water splitting is highly desirable to reduce manufacturing costs. Recently, sulfide chalcopyrites (Cu(In,Ga)S-2) have attracted attention as photocathodes for hydrogen ...

Photoelectrochemical water splitting provides a promising solution for harvesting and storing solar energy. As the best-performing oxide photocathode, the Cu2O photocathode holds the performance rivaling that of many photovoltaic semiconductor-based photoc ...

The development of stable materials, processable on alarge area,is a prerequisite for perovskite industrialization. Beyond the perovskiteabsorber itself, this should also guide the development of all otherlayers in the solar cell. In this regard, the use o ...

Photoelectrochemical cells employing organic semiconductors (OS) are promising for solar-to-fuel conversion via water splitting. However, despite encouraging advances with the half reactions, complete overall water splitting remains a challenge. Herein, a ...

Semiconducting delafossite-phase CuFeO2 is a promising photocathode material for solar-driven hydrogen production given its suitable energy levels and established robustness for photoelectrochemical water reduction. Nevertheless, reported methods for prepa ...

Incorporating organic semiconducting spacer cations into layered lead halide perovskite structures provides a powerful approach to mitigate the typical strong dielectric and quantum confinement effects by inducing charge-transfer between the organic and in ...

Incorporating organic semiconductor building blocks as spacer cations into layered hybrid perovskites provides an opportunity to develop new materials with novel optoelectronic properties, including nanoheterojunctions that afford spatial separation of ele ...

Cu2ZnSnS4 (CZTS) is a promising p-type semiconductor that has not yet been extensively investigated for solar fuel production via water splitting. Here, we optimize and compare two different electrodeposition routes (simultaneous and sequential) for prepar ...

Hematite is a promising material for inexpensive solar energy conversion via water splitting but has been limited by the large overpotential (0.5-0.6 V) that must be applied to afford high water oxidation photocurrent. This has conventionally been addresse ...

However, its green production process is expensive, involving water electrolysis, which requires a significant amount of energy. New technologies have been developed to decrease the cost associated with water electrolysis, such as using microbial electroly ...

A systematic investigation on the photoelectrocatalytic (PEC) performance of a series of CuW1-xMoxO4 materials with different Mo for W substitution (x = 0-0.8), successfully synthesized as single, transparent photoactive layers, allowed us to identify copp ...
