Organic semiconductors (OSs) are emerging candidates as light-harvesting materials in photoelectrochemical (PEC) cells for direct solar-to-chemical conversion. Despite significant recent progress with OS-based photocathodes, the development of efficient an ...

Iron-nitrogen-carbon (FeNC) electrocatalysts are emerging as a low-cost alternative to Pt-based materials for electrochemical oxygen reduction at the cathode of alkaline exchange membrane hydrogen fuel cells. The valorisation of waste biomass is a sustaina ...

Few-atomic-layer nanoflakes of liquid-phase exfoliated semiconducting transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) hold promise for large-area, high-performance, low-cost solar energy conversion, but their performance is limited by recombination at defect sites ...

Gathering information on the atomic nature of reactive sites and trap states is key to fine tuning catalysis and suppressing deleterious surface voltage losses in photoelectrochemical technologies. Here, spectroelectrochemical and computational methods wer ...

Delafossite CuFeO2 is a promising material for solar hydrogen production, but is limited by poor photocurrent. Strategies are demonstrated herein to improve the performance of CuFeO2 electrodes prepared directly on transparent conductive substrates by usin ...

Organic semiconductor (OSC) nanoparticles (NPs) are promising for numerous applications including greener organic photovoltaics and heterogeneous photocatalysts for solar H2 production. Single component or mixed bulk-heterojunction (BHJ) OSC NPs are common ...

The ultimate control over chain self-assembly is key to unravel and optimize the relationship between film microstructure and charge carrier mobility in solution processable conjugated polymer semiconductors. Here we employ preparatory size exclusion chrom ...

Efficiently and inexpensively converting solar energy into chemical fuels is an important goal towards a sustainable energy economy. An integrated tandem cell approach could reasonably convert over 20% of the sun's energy directly into chemical fuels like ...

The formation of oxygen vacancies (Vö) in n-type semiconductors is a key strategy for improving the performance of metal-oxide-based photoanodes. Whereas Vö has traditionally been created by gas- or liquid-phase treatments, here we report a solid-state red ...

The realization of photoelectrochemical tandem cells for efficient solar-to-hydrogen energy conversion is currently impeded by the lack of inexpensive, stable, and efficient photocathodes. The family of sulfide chalcopyrites (CuInxGa1-xS2) has recently dem ...
