This article investigates the influence of displacement ratio (R d-ratio) and void content on the fatigue behavior of Double Cantilever Beam (DCB) joints with thick adhesive layer (10 mm). Two R d-ratios and two different void contents were studied. To ach ...

The physical and mechanical properties of a cold-curing structural epoxy adhesive, exposed to a representative wet bridge environment, were investigated. A significant decrease of the glass transition temperature, tensile E-modulus and tensile strength was ...

Fatigue life prediction of wind turbine rotor blades is a very challenging task, as their failure is led by different failure types that act synergistically. Inherent defects like wrinkles, fiber misalignments, and voids that can be introduced during fabri ...

Glass fiber-reinforced (GFRP) cell-core sandwich structures are increasingly used in bridge deck and roof construction. GFRP cell-core sandwiches are composed of the outer GFRP face sheets, a foam core and a grid of GFRP webs integrated into the core in or ...

The physical and mechanical properties of a cold-curing structural epoxy adhesive, exposed to a wet bridge environment, were investigated. A significant decrease of the glass transition temperature, tensile E-modulus and tensile strength was observed which ...

The strain energy release rates of adhesively-bonded pultruded GFRP joints were determined experimentally. The crack propagated in the adherend along paths outside the symmetry plane accompanied by fiber bridging. A new method, designated the "extended glo ...

Pultruded glass fiber-reinforced polymer (GFRP) bridge decks distribute punctual vehicular loads to the underlying superstructure and can also act as the upper chord of hybrid main girders. The deck’s structural performance in both cases is influenced by i ...

This work examines the fatigue crack-arresting capability of thin PEI and PVDF thermoplastic interlayers in short-glass fiber-modified epoxy and core-shell rubber-modified epoxy materials. Singleedge notch bending epoxy specimens with and without interlaye ...

This research explores the capability of PEI and PVDF thermoplastic interlayers to arrest cracks in epoxy materials modified with short-glass fibers and core-shell rubber particles. It also investigates the effect of interlayer position, the number of inte ...

The fracture behavior of adhesively-bonded structural joints under tensile constant amplitude fatigue has been investigated. Double-lap joints (DLJs) and stepped-lap joints (SLJs) composed of pultruded GFRP laminates and an epoxy adhesive were examined. Bo ...

To address the data scarcity in structural health monitoring (SHM), this study proposes a health index (HI) prediction framework based on a feature-transfer-based conditional denoising diffusion probabilistic model (Conditional DDPM) for data augmentation. ...

Investigations of the fatigue performance of adhesively bonded joints were initiated since the 1950 s. An abundance of publications has emerged dealing with the experimental investigation of the fatigue performance of adhesively bonded joints of various ge ...

Slender webs of glass fiber-reinforced polymer (GFRP) beams are sensitive to shear buckling. Shear buckling can bee seen as an in-plane biaxial compression-tension buckling problem. The transverse tensile load thereby delays the onset of buckling and incre ...

A new computational tool for the fatigue life prediction of composite materials, designated CCfatigue, is presented in this paper. This new software has been developed based on a well-established phenomenological fatigue life prediction methodology. It is ...

A quasi-static progressive damage model based on the fracture mechanics approach was developed for adhesively-bonded pultruded glass fiber-reinforced polymer (GFRP) joints. The model comprises the implementation in a numerical algorithm of a mixed-mode fra ...

A semi-empirical S-N formulation for the modeling of the constant amplitude fatigue behavior of composite materials and structures is introduced in this paper. The new S-N formulation is based on the commonly used exponential and power law fatigue models. ...

This paper presents a semi-analytical methodology for the fracture mechanics assessment of asymmetric adhesively bonded composite joints. The method is based on the classical lamination theory, the simple beam theory and the extended global method. Experim ...
