Pull-out experiments were performed on three carbon fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) ground anchors simulating their applications in different rock types which provided different confinement levels. The CFRP tendons comprised, on the ground side, a prefabri ...

In this article, four different structural epoxy adhesives such as SPABOND (TM) 820HTA (non-toughened), SPABOND (TM) 840HTA (toughened) adhesives, and their two hybrid combinations are fabricated using a manual mixing method. Quasi-static tensile experimen ...

The effect of loading sequence on the fatigue behavior of adhesively-bonded pultruded GFRP double-lap joints was experimentally investigated by applying different tensile and compressive block loading patterns. The observed failure modes were consistent wi ...

Bridging by intact fibers is an important toughening mechanism in composite materials. However, a direct experimental evaluation of its contribution is difficult to achieve and in the case of large scale bridging the thickness, h, may have an important inf ...

The fracture behavior of adhesively-bonded pultruded joints was experimentally investigated under Mode I loading using double cantilever beam specimens. The pultruded adherends comprised two mat layers on each side with a roving layer in the middle. An epo ...

This work aims to investigate the quasi-static mode-I fracture behavior of thick glass fiber-reinforced polymeric composite-epoxy adhesive joints having a nominal bond line thickness of 10 mm, focused on wind turbine rotor blade applications. The thick adh ...

The fracture behavior of adhesively-bonded pultruded double cantilever beam specimens was experimentally investigated. The pultruded adherends comprised two mat layers on each side with a roving layer in the middle. An epoxy adhesive was used to form the d ...

The failure mechanism of non-slender glass fiber-reinforced epoxy prismatic specimens subjected to axial compression and different temperatures was investigated. Digital image correlation was used to map and derive the failure modes. The failure mode chang ...

In this work, clear timber specimens of different lengths with a small cross-sectional area were cut in the transverse direction of timber boards and tested under tensile loading. Regularly positioned and randomly positioned specimens were cut from differe ...

A new formulation for predicting an asymmetric, piecewise non-linear constant life diagram (CLD) is introduced in this paper. The development of the new model is based on the representation of the fatigue data on the stress ratio (R)-stress amplitude (σa) ...

Similarly to the post-buckling behavior of steel girder webs, the post-wrinkling behavior of glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) cell-core sandwich webs can increase their ultimate shear strength. Post wrinkling is, however, different from post-buckling ...

Sandwich systems composed of combustible glass fiber-reinforced polymer (GFRP) face sheets and balsa cores must fulfill fire resistance requirements if used, for instance, in bridge or building construction. Air gaps and steel inserts in the balsa core, th ...

The use of sensitive electronics in avionics and wind generation systems, as well as the introduction of lower-conductivity composite materials make it important to ensure adequate lightning testing of airplanes and wind turbines. Evidence exists suggestin ...

Hybrid composites become popular and are today used in a large number of contemporary structural applications. When compared to non-hybrid composites, hybridization offers additional benefits since the mixing of cheaper, low-quality fibers, with more expen ...

The influence of voids on the quasi-static Mode I fracture performance of thick adhesive joints was investigated in this article. Double Cantilever Beam (DCB) joints were manufactured with glass fiber reinforced epoxy adherends and SikaPower®-830 epoxy adh ...

A numerical investigation was carried out to simulate the experimental results previously obtained concerning two-dimensional in-plane crack propagation in laminated glass fiber-reinforced polymer (GFRP) plates. The plates were designed with an embedded ci ...

The fatigue response of adhesively-bonded pultruded GFRP double-lap joints was investigated under different loading patterns and experimental results were obtained for three different applied load ratios: R = 0.1, R = 10, and R = -1. The fatigue life of th ...

The influence of the constant life diagram (CLD) formulation on the fatigue life prediction of composite materials was examined. Most commonly used and recently proposed CLDs applied on composite materials fatigue data are presented and their applicability ...

The long-term changes in the thermophysical and mechanical properties of a cold-curing structural epoxy adhesive were investigated by accelerating the curing reaction by post-curing at elevated temperatures. Experimental data concerning the glass transitio ...
