The conversion of wood to synthetic natural gas (SNG) via gasification and catalytic methanation is a renewable close to commercialization technology that could substitute fossil fuels and alleviate global warming. In order to assure that it is beneficial ...

Knudsen flow experiments and its interpretation in terms of adsorption/desorption kinetics as well as quantitative uptake on substrates of interest is presented together with the description of critical design parameters of the Knudsen Flow Reactor (KFR). ...

Hydrothermal gasification (HTG) is a promising technology that allows the recovery of nutrients from wet biomass with simultaneous production of an energy-rich gas. In this work, wastewater effluent (leachate) obtained from a composter sanitary system oper ...

A novel process named SunCHem has been proposed to produce methane via catalytic hydrothermal gasification of microalgae [1-3]. The process is innovative because it is designed as a closed-cycle system with respect to water, nutrients and some of the CO2, ...

This study reports the first attempt of a citrate-modified photo-Fenton (PF) application at near-neutral pH (7.5–8.5, tap water) to disinfect Escherichia coli (as model bacterium), in Chlorella vulgaris cultures. The conditions are aimed towards bacterial ...

This paper concerns a miniature gasifier fed with a constant ambient-pressure flow of air to study the pyrolysis and subsequent combustion stage of a single wood pellet at T = 800 ℃. The alkali release and the concentration of simple gases were recorded si ...

This review explores the potential of separating and recycling rare earth elements (REEs) from different energy conversion systems, such as wind turbines, electric vehicles batteries, or lighting devices. The REEs include 17 elements (with global productio ...

Production of blended cements in which Portland cement is combined with supplementary cementitious materials (SCM) is an effective strategy for reducing the CO2 emissions during cement manufacturing and achieving sustainable concrete production. However, t ...

A numerical model to show the impact of the adsorption bed geometry on the desulfurization process of wet biomass under supercritical water (SCW) gasification process has been developed. Three different geometries, straight channels (pipe), sharp-edged cha ...

Nanotechnology offers new opportunities for providing health benefits in foods. Food fortification with iron phosphate nanoparticles (FePO4 NPs) is a promising new approach to reducing iron deficiency because FePO4 NPs combine high bioavailability with sup ...

In this study, a citrate-modified photo-Fenton process was successfully applied to decontaminate a Chlorella vulgaris microalgae culture spiked with the rotifer Brachionus calyciflorus (5 individuals mL−1). The applied treatment (1 mg L−1 Fe2+, 20 mg L−1 H ...

Microalgae produce renewable biomass at high efficiency by using photosynthesis to capture the greenhouse gas CO2 from the atmosphere and releasing O2. Chlorella vulgaris is one of the most frequently cultivated unicellular green microalgae of commercial r ...

Incorporating platinum (Pt) as a gas recombination catalyst in proton exchange membranes (PEMs) effectively addresses the challenge of pronounced hydrogen crossover in PEM water electrolysis cells, particularly when thin membranes are employed. However, th ...

The thermal decomposition of three synthetic copper sulfides (chalcocite (Cu2S), chalcopyrite (CuFeS2), and enargite (Cu3AsS4)) and two commercial copper concentrates has been studied on a thermobalance (T = 1173-1773 K) and an imaging furnace (T approxima ...

Recent literature on Pt/CeO2 catalysts reveals that ionic Pt species could be incorporated into the CeO2 lattice. Here we present a detailed study of Pt segregation in air and under a reducing atmosphere conducted on thermally treated samples by high-resol ...

Aerosol sampling stands as an essential step in air quality monitoring and characterization. Active sampling provides accurate aerosol determination, while passive sampling offers cost-effective and power supply-free design. However, passive sampling is su ...

The environmental benefits of recycling are assessed against other end-of-life (EOL) treatments for Carbon Fibre Reinforced Plastic (CFRP) waste. Recycling via pyrolysis, incineration with energy recovery, and disposal via landfilling are compared. To acco ...

Accurately assessing the interfacial composition and reactivity of (bio)polymers under controlled but environmentally relevant conditions remains challenging. This study explores the evolution of surface functionalities of novel polyesters Poly(Butylene Xy ...

Supercritical water is a green solvent used in many technological applications including materials synthesis, nuclear engineering, bioenergy, or waste treatment and it occurs in nature. Despite its relevance in natural systems and technical applications, t ...

On-line measurements of metal emissions in energy conversion systems at very low concentrations are difficult to perform using existing techniques. Metals are of high importance due to their detrimental impact on human health, the environment and various i ...
