Coastal reservoir contributes to alleviating the freshwater shortage in stressed areas, and the salinization of reservoir water is one of the most important challenges that coastal reservoir faced. Field-investigation indicates that there are many deep poo ...

Sampling is a key step in the analysis of chemical compounds. It is particularly important in the environmental field, for example for wastewater effluents, wet-weather discharges or streams in which the flows and concentrations vary greatly over time. In ...

In chloroethene-contaminated sites undergoing in situ bioremediation, groundwater acidification is a frequent problem in the source zone, and buffering strategies have to be implemented to maintain the pH in the neutral range. An alternative to conventiona ...

Building facades are protected from microbial attack by incorporation of biocides within them. Flow over facades leaches these biocides and transports them to the urban environment. A parsimonious water quantity/quality model applicable for engineered urba ...

A critical review of conceptual and mathematical models developed in recent decades on sediment transport in the swash zone is presented. Numerous studies of the hydrodynamics and sediment transport in the swash zone in recent years have pointed out the im ...

A numerical study, based on a density-dependent variably saturated groundwater flow model, was conducted to investigate flow and salt transport in a near-shore aquifer under intensified wave conditions caused by offshore storms. Temporally varying onshore ...

A fully coupled two-phase flow model was developed to simulate nearshore fluid-sediment turbulent flow. It includes the Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes equations and turbu¬lent stress closures for each phase, and accounts for inter-granular stresses. It wa ...

A recent approximation to the three-parameter infiltration was compared with an existing approximation. The new approximation has a minimum relative error that is two orders of magnitude greater than the maximum relative error of the existing approximation ...

Dynamic penetrometers reveal information about seafloor strength, stratification, stability, and sediment remobilization. However, positioning is often limited to a range of meters making it difficult to target small-scale geomorphologic features. Deployme ...

An expression was developed for prediction of drag coefficients for any spherical particle, drop or bubble in an infinite, homogeneous liquid. The formula reproduces the limiting cases for gas bubbles and solid spheres, as well as the exact Hadamard-Rybczy ...

Theoretical studies on oceans and large lakes have shown that submesoscale instabilities in frontal zones tend to reduce horizontal density gradients and enhance vertical density gradients, thereby re-stratifying the Surface Mixed Layer (SML). Submesoscale ...

The parameter consistency of the one-dimensional Hairsine-Rose (H-R) erosion model under conditions of significant rainfall splash was examined. To account for the splash characteristic length scale and its interaction with the transverse erosion width, ex ...

We describe the development of a BVLOS (Beyond Visual Line-Of-Sight) model aircraft (UAV). The broad design requirements included (i) fuselage capable of accommodating an imaging package or other instrumentation, (ii) suitability for over-lake BVLOS author ...

A nonlinear model for single-phase fluid flow in slightly compressible porous media is presented and solved approximately. The model assumes state equations for density, porosity, viscosity and permeability that are exponential functions of the fluid (eith ...

Though the essence of the scientific literature is to be a repository of unaffiliated truths, scientific advancement fundamentally stems from the insights and efforts of individuals. This dichotomy can hide exemplars for young scholars of how to contribute ...

We describe and test an obstacle-detection system for small, lake-deployed autonomous surface vehicles (ASVs) that relies on a low-cost, consumer-grade camera and runs on a single-board computer. A key feature of lakes that must be accounted for is the fre ...

An earlier infiltration equation relied on curve fitting of infiltration data for the determination of one of the parameters, which limits its usefulness in practice. This handicap is removed here, and the parameter is now evaluated by linking it directly ...

Shear layers and corresponding Kelvin Helmholtz-type Coherent Structures (KHCS) can be generated by rivers discharging into laterally-unconfined quiescent open water bodies (e.g., lakes). When the river discharge has a greater density than the receiving wa ...

Intertidal wetlands are complex hydrological systems characterized by strong, dynamic interactions between coastal surface water and groundwater, driven particularly by tides. We simulated such interactions with a focus on three-dimensional, variably satur ...
