Decoding the subjective perception of task difficulty may help improve operator performance, i.e., automatically optimize the task difficulty level. Here, we aim to decode a compound of cognitive states that covaries with the task difficulty level. We desi ...

Analog in-memory computing (AIMC) cores offers significant performance and energy benefits for neural network inference with respect to digital logic (e.g., CPUs). AIMCs accelerate matrix-vector multiplications, which dominate these applications’ run-time. ...

Epilepsy is one of the most prevalent paroxystic neurological disorders. It is characterized by the occurrence of spontaneous seizures. About 1 out of 3 patients have drug-resistant epilepsy, thus their seizures cannot be controlled by medication. Automati ...

3D stacked systems reduce communication delay in multiprocessor system-on-chips (MPSoCs) and enable heterogeneous integration of cores, memories, sensors, and RF devices. However, vertical integration of layers exacerbates temperatureinduced problems such ...

We present a methodology for identifying patients who have experienced Paroxysmal Atrial Fibrillation (PAF) among a given subject population. Our work is intended as an initial step towards the design of an unobtrusive portable system for concurrent detect ...

Time lag and quantization in temperature sensors in enterprise servers lead to stability concerns on existing variable fan speed control schemes. Stability challenges become further aggravated when multiple local controllers are running together with the f ...

Liquid cooling has emerged as a promising solution for addressing the elevated temperatures in 3D stacked architectures. In this work, we first propose a framework for detailed thermal modeling of the microchannels embedded between the tiers of the 3D syst ...

Counting the number of times a patient coughs per day is an essential biomarker in determining treatment efficacy for novel antitussive therapies and personalizing patient care. Automatic cough counting tools must provide accurate information, while runnin ...

3D stacked architectures reduce communication delay in multiprocessor system-on-chips (MPSoCs) and allowing more functionality per unit area. However, vertical integration of layers exacerbates the reliability and thermal problems, and cooling is a limitin ...

While possessing the potential to replace conventional air-cooled heat sinks, inter-tier microchannel liquid cooling of 3D ICs also creates the problem of increased thermal gradients from the fluid inlet to outlet ports [1, 2]. These cooling-induced therma ...

Next generation workloads, such as genome sequencing, have an astounding impact in the healthcare sector. Sequence alignment, the first step in genome sequencing, has experienced recent breakthroughs, which resulted in next generation sequencing (NGS). As ...

A method and device for reducing the computational complexity of a processing algorithm, of a discrete signal, in particular of the spectral estimation and analysis of bio-signals, with minimum or no quality loss, which comprises steps of (a) choosing a do ...

Hypertension is known to affect around one third of adults globally and early diagnosis is essential to reduce the effects of this affliction. Today’s Blood Pressure (BP) monitoring cuffs are obtrusive and in- convenient for performing regular measurements ...

Two-phase liquid cooling of computer chips via microchannels etched directly on silicon dies is a potential long-term solution to enable continued integration of high-performance multiprocessors. Two-phase cooling refers to the heat removal via evaporation ...

Field-Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) have become promising mapping fabric for the implementation of System-on-Chip (SoC) platforms, due to their large capacity and their enhanced support for dynamic and partial reconfigurability. Design automation suppor ...

With the spread of cloud services and Internet of Things concept, there is a popularization of machine learning and artificial intelligence based analytics in our everyday life. However, an efficient deployment of these data-intensive services requires per ...

In the last years, the need for enhancing health and preventing problems with remote monitoring is increasing. A non-invasive low-cost technique for processing bio-signals and monitoring vital parameters, at rest and during physical activity, is the use of ...

In the recent Internet-of-Things (IoT) era where biomedical applications require continuous monitoring of relevant data, edge computing keeps gaining more and more importance. These new architectures for edge computing include multi-core and parallel compu ...

Continuous transistor scaling due to improvements in CMOS devices and manufacturing technologies is increasing processor power densities and temperatures; thus, creating challenges when trying to maintain manufacturing yield rates and devices which will be ...

Environmental energy is becoming a feasible alternative to traditional energy sources for ultra low-power devices such as sensor nodes. These devices can run reactive applications that adapt their control flow depending on the sensed data. In order to redu ...
