In order to increase the power autonomy of implantable sensors, energy harvesters can aid and, in certain cases, substitute implantable batteries. The paper describes two promising techniques among the approaches presented in literature: biofuel cells and ...

The effect of process variations on the clock skew in three dimensional (3-D) circuits with multiple clock domains is investigated. In 3-D ICs, the combined effect of inter-die and intra-die process variations should be considered in the design of clock di ...

The goal of thermal management is to meet maximum operating temperature constraints, while at the same time tracking timevarying performance requirements. Current approaches avoid thermal violations by forcing abrupt operating points changes (e.g. processo ...

On-chip wires are becoming unreliable as the effect of various noise sources increases with technology scaling. This leads to unpredictable timing delay variations on the interconnect wires. There is a significant need to mitigate the effect of parasitics ...

Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) are composed of a large number of very small devices used for biomedical or environmental monitoring applications. These devices measure various natural processes at different locations, and cooperate in order to aggregate t ...

Networks on Chips (NoCs) are required to tackle the increasing delay and poor scalability issues of bus-based communication architectures. Many of today’s NoC designs are based on single path routing. By utilizing multiple paths for routing, congestion in ...

Novel methods to obtain Pt nanostructured electrodes have raised particular interest due to their high performance in electrochemistry. Several nanostructuration methods proposed in the literature use costly and bulky equipment or are time-consuming due to ...

Quantum computation is a promising field of research that will shift the computation paradigm for data and information processing with quantum parallelism. This Special Issue of the IEEE JOURNAL ON EMERGING AND SELECTED TOPICS IN CIRCUITS AND SYSTEMS (JETC ...

As embedded computing evolves towards ever more powerful architectures, the challenge of properly interconnecting large numbers of on-chip computation blocks is becoming prominent. Networks-on-Chip (NoCs) have been proposed as a scalable solution to both p ...

The development of a low-cost, robust, and versatile biosensors for the rapid detection of endogenous and exogenous metabolites in small animals is of great interest for health-care, pharmaceuticals, and in translational medicine. This work presents a comp ...

We propose effective algorithms for exact synthesis of Boolean logic networks using satisfiability modulo theories (SMT) solvers. Since exact synthesis is a difficult problem, it can only be applied efficiently to very small functions, having up to 6 varia ...

Factored form is a powerful multi-level representation of a Boolean function that readily translates into an implementation of the function in CMOS technology. In particular, the number of literals in a factored form correlates strongly with the number of ...

Progress in engineering systems is the result of the combined improvements of technology and design methods. It is often a cyclic process, stimulated by success and failure. When the innovation loop stalls in producing effective progress, a change in parad ...

This paper compares three different biocompatible packagings suitable to support full implantation of multi-panel sensors for remote monitoring of metabolism. The three packagings have been designed, realized and implanted in mice for 30 days. ATP and neut ...

We have already demonstrated that high quality SiNW-FETs can be used to sense very low concentration range (fM) of pathogenic factors in controlled PBS. In this work we show, for the first time, Silicon Nanowire Field Effect Transistors (SiNW-FET) as biose ...

In the past, tantalum oxide devices have been used to create non-volatile digital memories, whilst neglecting the analogue memristive characteristics of such devices. In this Letter, it is shown that these devices can provide a low-cost, low-power solution ...

Poor adherence to medical regimen causes approximately 33% to 69% of medication-related hospitalizations and accounts for $100 billion in annual health care costs. In this paper we address the problem of unintentional non adherence, when patient fails to t ...

Current systems-on-chip (SoC) execute applications that demand extensive parallel processing. Networks-on-chip (NoC) provide a structured way of realizing interconnections on silicon, and obviate the limitations of bus-based solutions. NoC can have regular ...

In this paper, we develop a new LUT-based optimization flow tailored for the synthesis of ASICs rather than FPGAs. We enhance LUT-mapping to consider the literal/AIG cost of LUT-nodes. We extend traditional Boolean methods to simplify and re-shape LUT-netw ...

Loading classical data into quantum registers is one of the most important primitives of quantum computing. While the complexity of preparing a generic quantum state is exponential in the number of qubits, in many practical tasks the state to prepare has a ...
