Motivated by the recent discovery of the spin tube [(CuCl2tachH)3Cl]Cl2, we investigate the properties of a frustrated three-leg spin tube with antiferromagnetic intra- and inter-ring couplings. We pay special attention to the evolution of the properties f ...

We study spontaneous dimerization and emergent criticality in a spin-3/2 chain with antiferromagnetic nearestneighbor J(1), next-nearest-neighbor J(2), and three-site J(3) interactions. In the absence of three-site interaction J(3), we provide evidence tha ...

We show that, in the presence of a π/2 artificial gauge field per plaquette, Mott insulating phases of ultracold fermions with SU(N) symmetry and one particle per site generically possess an extended chiral phase with intrinsic topological order characteri ...

We study the effect of antiferromagnetic longitudinal coupling on the one-dimensional transverse field Ising model with nearest-neighbor couplings. In the topological phase where, in the thermodynamic limit, the ground state is twofold degenerate, we show ...

Building on the growing evidence based on NMR, magnetization, neutron scattering, electron spin resonance, and specific heat that, under pressure, SrCu2(BO3)(2) has an intermediate phase between the dimer and the Neel phase, we study the competition betwee ...

Recent experiments on the Ba3XSb2O9 family have revealed materials that potentially realize spin-and spin-orbital liquid physics. However, the lattice structure of these materials is complicated due to the presence of charged X2+-Sb5+ dumbbells, with two p ...

We revisit the SU(6) Heisenberg model on the honeycomb lattice, which has been predicted to be a chiral spin liquid by mean-field theory [G. Szirmai et al., Phys. Rev. A 84, 011611(R) (2011)]. Using exact diagonalizations of finite clusters, infinite proje ...

We examine the ground-state phase diagram and thermal phase transitions in a plaquettized fully frustrated bilayer spin-1/2 Heisenberg model. Based on a combined analysis from sign-problem free quantum Monte Carlo simulations, perturbation theory, and free ...

We present Monte Carlo simulations for a classical antiferromagnetic Heisenberg model with both nearest (J(1)) and next-nearest (J(2)) exchange couplings on the square lattice in the presence of nonmagnetic impurities. We show that the order-by-disorder en ...

Using an SU(2) invariant finite-temperature tensor network algorithm, we provide strong numerical evidence in favor of an Ising transition in the collinear phase of the spin-1/2 J(1)-J(2) Heisenberg model on the square lattice. In units of J(2), the critic ...

Using a time-dependent density matrix renormalization group approach, we study the dynamical structure factor of the J1-J2 spin-1 chain. As J2 increases, the magnon mode develops incommensurability. The system undergoes a first-order transition at J2=0.76J ...

Motivated by recent STM experiments, we explore the magnetic field induced Kondo effect that takes place at symmetry protected level crossings in finite Co adatom chains. We argue that the effective two-level system realized at a level crossing acts as an ...

Using density matrix renormalization group simulations on open chains, we map out the wave vector in the incommensurate disordered phase of a realistic model of Rydberg chains with 1/r6 interactions, and we locate and characterize the points along the comm ...

We present a 2D NMR investigation of the gapped spin-1/2 compound Cu2(C5H10N2D2)2Cl4. Our measurements reveal the presence of a magnetic field-induced transverse staggered magnetization (TSM) which persists well below and above the field-induced 3D long-ra ...

We investigate the properties of antiferromagnetic spin-S ladders with the help of local Berry phases defined by imposing a twist on one or a few local bonds. In gapped systems with time-reversal symmetry, these Berry phases are quantized, hence able in pr ...

Impurities often play a defining role in the ground states of frustrated quantum magnets. Studies of their effects are crucial in understanding of the phase diagram in these materials. SrCu2(BO3)(2), an experimental realization of the Shastry-Sutherland (S ...

We report on a first-principles investigation of the electronic structure and of the magnetic properties of the quasi-two-dimensional Mott insulator SrCu2(BO3)(2). Based on the hopping integrals and Coulomb interactions calculated with local-density approx ...

The corner transfer matrix renormalization group (CTMRG) algorithm has been extensively used to investigate both classical and quantum two-dimensional (2D) lattice models. The convergence of the algorithm can strongly vary from model to model depending on ...

We report on the real space profile of spin polarons in the quasi-two-dimensional frustrated dimer spin system SrCu2(BO3)(2) doped with 0.16% of Zn. The B-11 nuclear magnetic resonance spectrum exhibits 15 additional boron sites near nonmagnetic Zn impurit ...

The topological degeneracy associated with Majorana edge states has been measured in a spin-1/2 chain of cobalt atoms, thereby opening new avenues in low-dimensional quantum magnetism. ...
