Digital wireless microphone systems have been developed to enhance speech intelligibility for hearing aid users. The voice of the speaker of interest is picked-up close to the mouth by a body-worn microphone, and rendered in a diotic way (same signal at th ...

This article introduces the constraints and issues related to the implementation of a binaural localization algorithm on a pair of hearing aids. The algorithm should improve the rendering of the spatial information available in the audio signals, which are ...

An active noise reduction system (2) comprising an electroacoustic plasma transducer (5) for mounting in an installation structure and an acoustic sensing system (11). The electroacoustic plasma transducer comprises a plasma electrode arrangement (6) inclu ...

The new generation of Ultra-High-By-Pass-Ratio (UHBR) turbofan engine while considerably reducing fuel consumption, threatens higher noise levels at low frequencies because of its larger diameter, lower number of blades and rotational speed. This is accomp ...

In this paper, the liner concept is an electroacoustic transducer which acoustic impedance can be changed by electrical means, be it passive or active. Among the different ways to obtain variable acoustic properties on an electroacoustic transducer's voici ...

In this article we make an analogy between Electromagnetic and Acoustic transmission-line modelling. Then we use this to introduce acoustic transmission-line metamaterials and finally we introduce the acoustic leaky-wave antenna on the basis of previous st ...

In multivariate systems, when it comes to identifying actual operating conditions ranges, or optimal settings, the use of constrained optimization is often required. Among the different tools for the engineer to perform such optimization, designed experime ...

We introduce an active concept for achieving acoustic metasurfaces with steerable reflection properties, effective over a wide frequency band. The proposed active acoustic metasurface consists in a surface array of subwavelength loudspeakers diaphragms, ea ...

The non-Hermitian skin effect is an intriguing physical phenomenon, in which all eigenmodes of a non-Hermitian lattice become localized at boundary regions. While such an exotic behavior has been demonstrated in various physical platforms, most realization ...

Speech recognition applications embedded on a PDA are already available on the market. The usual hardware for this kind of systems is a single microphone mounted on the PDA, giving good results within quiet environments. Though, the recognition rate falls ...

Vertical localization performance in a practical wave field synthesis formulation is investigated. The implemented 3-D rendering method allows precise sound source reproduction while taking into account practical constraints such as the required number of ...

An acoustic dimer composed of two electronically controlled electroacoustic resonators is presented with the view of exploring one-dimensional topological phenomena. Active control allows real-time manipulation of the metamaterial’s properties, including i ...

The design and the grazing flow aeroacoustical characterization of a 2D active liner based on an array of electroacoustic absorbers are presented in this paper. The strategy stands on a pressure-based, current-driven digital architecture for impedance cont ...

This paper is focused on experimental characterization of new active liners technologies in acoustic flow duct facilities (FDF). These measurements have been performed in the NLR (Netherlands Aerospace Center). Different configurations of passive and activ ...

We present our recent work on a one-dimensional acoustic negative refractive index metamaterial based on the concept of dual transmission line extensively investigated in microwave engineering. The proposed structure consists of an acoustic waveguide perio ...

There is provided a hearing assistance system, comprising a transmission unit (10) comprising a microphone arrangement (17) for capturing audio signals from a voice of a speaker ( 11 ) using the transmission unit and being adapted to transmit the audio sig ...

This paper describes a first prototype harvesting the acoustic energy using electrochemical storage devices. In particular, the harvesting system is composed by an Electrochemical Double Layer Capacitors (EDLC) suitably coupled with an electroacoustic abso ...

Acoustic metamaterials constitute a new class of structures that exhibit acoustic properties not readily available in nature. These properties can be a negative mass density, expressing the opposition of the acceleration of a particle to the application of ...

Little is known about the perception of artificial spatial hearing by hearing-impaired subjects. The purpose of this study was to investigate how listeners with hearing disorders perceived the effect of a spatialization feature designed for wireless microp ...

Recent studies have focused on developing metamaterials for acoustic applications, inspired by electromagnetics concepts. The acoustic leaky-wave antenna is amongst the most investigated. Despite the unfavourable properties of conventional matter and struc ...
