Electroacoustic absorbers consist of loudspeakers, shunted with an electrical circuit designed to obtain a given acoustic impedance. Their design and principles are now well understood. Unidimensional experiments, using plane waves under normal incidence i ...

The auditory system allows the estimation of the distance to sound-emitting objects using multiple spatial cues. In virtual acoustics over headphones, a prerequisite to render auditory distance impression is sound externalization, which denotes the percept ...

The SALUTE project aims at evaluating performance of electroacoustic metasurface, employing a surface array of controlled electroacoustic actuators, for smart acoustic lining under grazing turbulent flow to be used in UHBR Technologies Engines. Theoretical ...

Variable acoustic properties can be obtained on an electroacoustic transducer’s voicing face by very basic control strategies, among which are the shunting of the loudspeaker (shortcut, variable electric load, or negative resistance disposals). It is prove ...

This paper follows a previous publication, where the so-called Advection Boundary Law lining an acoustic waveguide, in absence of mean flow, was studied in terms of its potentials for noise isolation and non-reciprocal propagation. The Advection Boundary L ...

Absorbing airborne noise at frequencies below 300 Hz is a particularly vexing problem due to the absence of natural sound absorbing materials at these frequencies. The prevailing solution for low-frequency sound absorption is the use of passive narrow-band ...

New miniaturization and integration capabilities made available from the emerging MEMS technology allow for the design of artificial linings involving distribution of a large number of elementary cells, that may be composed of loudspeakers and microphones. ...

In the majority of active sound absorbing systems, a conventional electrodynamic loudspeaker is used as a controlled source. However, particular situations may require an actuator that is more resistant to harsh environments, adjustable in shape, and light ...

Head tracking combined with head movements have been shown to improve auditory externalization of a virtual sound source and contribute to the performance in localization. With certain technically constrained head-tracking algorithms, as can be found in we ...

This paper presents a methodology for the design of broadband electroacoustic resonators for low-frequency room equalization. An electroacoustic resonator denotes a loudspeaker used as a membrane resonator, the acoustic impedance of which can be modified t ...

The occlusion effect refers to the altered perception of one's own voice when the ear canal is fully or partially obstructed. Conventional countermeasures include the use of large vent bores or open fittings on the one hand and fittings reaching as deep as ...

In closed spaces, standing waves occur at low frequencies, thus creating annoying acoustic resonances. Such unwanted phenomena are likely to affect the annoyance of noise sources in the low frequency range. Up to date, low-frwquency treatments are mainly b ...

The acoustic impedance at the diaphragm of an electroacoustic transducer can be varied using a range of basic electrical control strategies, amongst which are electrical shunt circuits. These passive shunt techniques are compared to active acoustic feedbac ...

This paper discusses a time-domain technique for synthesizing acoustic impedance at the diaphragm of a loudspeaker using a proportional-plus-derivative output feedback. The dynamics of electroacoustic transducers such as moving-coil loudspeakers can be rea ...

When it comes to designing active control disposals, sound pressure sensing is usually required. In the framework of active control of acoustic impedance, this work aims at conceiving a digital estimator that processes voltage and current measurement to co ...

Electroacoustic absorbers represent an interesting solution for low-frequency sound absorption in rooms. These systems simply consist of closed-box electrodynamic loudspeakers, whose acoustic impedance at the diaphragm is judiciously adjusted by connecting ...

An accurate knowledge of the sound field distribution inside a room is required to identify and optimally locate corrective measures for room acoustics. However, the spatial recovery of the sound field would result in an impractically high number of microp ...

We present a concept of "active material" with variable acoustic properties, being constituted of an electroacoustic transducer which acoustic impedance can be changed by an active mean. Among the different ways to obtain variable acoustic properties on an ...

In many industrial environments, room and cavity modes may severely strengthen the annoyance of low frequency noises, such as in ventilation equipments. Moreover, there is an obvious technological gap in the state-of-the-art relative to low-frequency sound ...

Nowadays, customers have legitimate requirements as regards quality that marketing and consumers departments attempt to satisfy. The sound is well-known to enhance or detract from our pleasure in possessing or using a product. Sound quality engineering is ...
