The objective of this study is to experimentally analyse effects of geometry variations of Multiple Tab and Slot Joint (MTSJ) connection with dovetail design on shear mechanical behaviour. Direct shear test was performed on angular (phi=90°) MTSJ connectio ...

This article presents a new lightweight construction system for doubly curved shells made from timber plates, inspired by the masonry vaults of Eladio Dieste. The system was developed for a specific case-study project, and general applications to other fre ...

Welding of wood is a relatively new method of joining load bearing elements, which holds the potential to compete with structural adhesion, since it allows for an almost instantaneous bond. First experimental and numerical investigations showed that failur ...

This interdisciplinary research project presents a corporation of architects, mathematicians and computer scientists. The team researches new methods for the efficient realization of complex architectural shapes. The present work investigates methods of it ...

Wood-to-wood bonds obtained by means of friction welding are a relatively new type of connections holding high potential to compete with existing structural adhesives, since a load bearing bond is formed almost instantaneously. This paper addresses the que ...

Research on friction welded wood-to-wood connections has shown high potential for further development regarding the industrial application of timber construction. This paper addresses the question to which extent welding of wood can be applied to fabricati ...

This paper presents an integrated design tool for structures composed of engineered timber panels that are connected by traditional wood joints. Recent advances in computational architecture have permitted to automate the fabrication and assembly of such s ...

Design of Integrally-Attached Timber Plate Structures outlines a new design methodology for digitally fabricated spatial timber plate structures, presented with examples from recent construction projects. It proposes an innovative and sustainable design me ...

Fabrication of wood-to-wood connections by means of friction welding is an relatively new process holding high potential for development. To connect wooden pieces by means of friction welding, they are initially pressed against each other. The rapid moveme ...

TimberSLAM (TSLAM) is an object-centered, tag-based visual self-localization and mapping (SLAM) system for monocular RGB cameras. It was specifically developed to support a robust and augmented reality pipeline for close-range, noisy, and cluttered fabrica ...

Dans le cadre de la construction en bois, nous nous intéressons à la modélisation de maillages surfaciques 3D basés sur un modèle itératif inspiré du modèle IFS (Iterated Function System). Les formes modélisées doivent satisfaire certaines propriétés afin ...

Practical and material orientated academic research has become increasingly important for architectural practice. This is due to several reasons. First of all, it contributes to contemporary concepts in architecture and improves their implementation. Today ...

This paper introduces a computational framework that fosters collaboration between architects, engineers, and contractors by bridging the gap between architectural design, structural analysis, and digital construction. The present research is oriented towa ...

Timber building industry is facing a major transformation with digitalization and automation being more broadly adopted. Prefabricated timber frame structures can be mass-produced on large robotic assembly lines, increasing the productivity and competitive ...

Integral Mechanical Attachment (IMA) uses features in the form of components for their connection. In addition to the transfer of forces, locator features are used as integral assembly guides. Prismatic, single-degree-of-freedom (1DOF) joints only allow fo ...

Textiles are interesting from both a structural and an architectural point of view. Their patterns and textures, created by the interworking of yarn elements, are not only highly appealing on an aesthetical level, they also possess load bearing qualities. ...

Wood-wood connections, widely used in the past, have been progressively replaced by steel fasteners in timber constructions. Currently, they can be manufactured and implemented more efficiently thanks to digital fabrication techniques. In addition, with th ...

This paper describes the construction process of a scenographic structure - five meters high spiral. It consists of following parts: CAD modeling work-flow, prototyping and FEM structural calculation, assembly and on-site loading test. The structure was co ...

An ordinary electric drill was integrated into a context-aware augmented reality (AR) framework to assist in timber-drilling tasks. This study is a preliminary evaluation to detail technical challenges, potential bottlenecks, and accuracy of the proposed o ...

This dataset contains the data, pipelines (in the form of .ghx files) and numerical results of the evaluation of diffCheck, an open-source scan-to-CAD comparison plugin for Rhino3D. The dataset is divided into two main compressed folders: Additive and `S ...
