We present a new approach of beam homogenizing elements based on a statistical array of concave cylindrical microlens arrays. Those elements are used to diffuse light in only one direction and can be employed together with fly’s eye condensers to generate ...

A realization of a high numeric aperture, aspheric, silicon based collimating element for the mid-infrared (4 – 14 microns) Quantum Cascade Lasers, suited for mass production using computer driven reactive ion etching is presented. ...

Highly confined light fields demonstrate peculiar phase features, e.g., Gouy phase anomaly. Longitudinal-differential phase measurements by a high-resolution interference microscope are applied to investigate phase evolutions of confined light fields for p ...

High resolution amplitude and phase of light fields emerging from a 2-μm-period amplitude grating are measured for different wavelengths. The amplitude gratings lead to highly periodic patterns caused by the Talbot effect. Such patterns reach periodicities ...

We investigate the Gouy phase anomaly of light in the focus of refractive plano-convex microlens arrays by using longitudinal-differential (LD) interferometry and a finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) simulation. We put emphasis on determining the amount ...

An approach to extend the field of view of a miniaturised imaging system is introduced. This innovative approach uses multiple optical systems working in parallel and image post-processing. As an example, a module consisting of a central single micro-lens ...

A colorimetric sensor providing a direct visual indication of chemical contamination was developed. The sensor is a combination of a chemically sensitive dye layer and a resonant waveguide grating. Enhancement of the light absorption by the photonic struct ...

In this work, we use a multi-heterodyne scanning near-field optical microscope to investigate the polarization and propagation of Bloch surface waves in an ultrathin (similar to lambda/10) ridge waveguide. First, we show that the structure sustains three s ...

We report an experimental and theoretical study on the alignment error tolerance of a 2 µm-size solid immersion lens (SIL) illuminated by different types of focused spots. Tightly confined focal spots are of great interest for improving the performance of ...

We present the observation of Bloch Surface Waves in the mid-infrared spectral range. A dielectric multi-layer coating made of ZnSe and YbF3 deposited on a CaF2 substrate is designed and fabricated specifically for that purpose. The structure supports the ...

We report on the generation of photonic nanojets, which resemble optical bottle beams. They are realized by manipulating the illumination of dielectric microspheres. As illumination we use the outer region of deliberately truncated Bessel-Gauss beam or a f ...
