We present a comprehensive review on the latest research activities that explore the Gouy phase and indicate the recent experimental progresses for its observations in studies that rely on a longitudinal-differential interferometer. The latter is a far-fie ...

Guiding and confining light at interfaces is crucial for applications involving light-matter interactions, such as surface spectroscopy, nonlinear optics, and quantum information technology. While dielectric surface waves offer promising perspectives for s ...

Replication techniques for diffractive optical elements (DOEs) in soft materials such as plastic injection molding are state of the art. For precision glass molding in glasses with high transition temperatures, molds with extreme thermal resistivity, low c ...

At the end of the 1970s, it was confirmed that dielectric multilayers can sustain Bloch surface waves (BSWs). However, BSWs were not widely studied until more recently. Taking advantage of their high-quality factor, sensing applications have focused on BSW ...

We study experimentally and theoretically the electromagnetic field in amplitude and phase behind ball-lenses across a wide range of diameters, ranging from a millimeter scale down to a micrometer. Based on the observation, we study the transition between ...

In nature strong colors play an important role in scaring away predators or finding a mate. Often, the strongest and brightest colors arise from coherent scattering and reflection on periodic structures on a length scale of several micro- or nanometers. Un ...

A consumer market for diffractive optical elements in glass can only be created if high efficient elements are available at affordable prices. In diffractive optics the efficiency and optical properties increases with the number of levels used, but in the ...

Printing industry and printing techniques are increasing its market value by new methodologies. The resolution and accuracy of the pattern transfer is always a challenge for the industry, especially for the proximity printing industries which use mask alig ...

Despite the progress in the engineering of structures to enhance photocurrent in thin film solar cells, there are few comprehensive studies which provide general and intuitive insight into the problem of light trapping. Also, lack of theoretical propositio ...

We present the first optical sensor based on Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR) operating in the mid-infrared range. The experimental setup is based on a Kretschmann geometry with Ti/Au layers deposited on a CaF2 prism where light excitation is provided by a ...

The demand of high resolution diffractive optical elements (DOE) is growing. Smaller critical dimensions allow higher deflection angles and can fulfill more demanding requirements, which can only be met by using electron-beam lithography. Replication techn ...

Bessel-Gauss beams are known as non-diffracting beams. They can be obtained by focusing an annularly shaped collimated laser beam. Here, we report for the first time on the direct measurement of the phase evolution of such beams by relying on longitudinal- ...

A two step process has been developed for the fabrication of diffraction limited concave microlens arrays. The process is based on the photoresist filling of melted holes obtained by a preliminary photolithography step. The quality of these microlenses has ...

We investigate the transition of optical regimes of miniaturized optical systems using two canonical examples, where the refraction of light limits the system performance. A ball-lens and a solid immersion lens (SIL) are considered, whose refractive respon ...

We show the directional excitation of Bloch surface waves controlled by the magnetic field of light. The phenomenon in play is the first magnetic spin-orbit interaction of light. It opens new degrees of freedom in the manipulation of light and offers appea ...

We study the Bloch surface wave based nano-thin 2D optical components. The 2D elements are fabricated on the dielectric multilayer platform which sustains the Bloch surface waves. Such a platform is considered as a novel foundation for planar integrated op ...

Proximity exposure techniques in lithography are getting more and more popular because of the cost of ownership advantage of mask aligners compared to projection systems. In this paper a gap between simulation and the final result, the prints will be close ...

We study n-i-p amorphous silicon solar cells with light-scattering nanoparticles in the back reflector. In one configuration, the particles are fully embedded in the zinc oxide buffer layer; In a second configuration, the particles are placed between the b ...

Ultra high-resolution measurements of amplitude and phase fields emerging from fine period amplitude gratings are presented and discussed. In the axial direction periodically repeated features are found, whose origins are the Talbot effect within the Fresn ...

We report a prototype CO2 gas sensor based on a simple blackbody infrared source and a spectrally narrow quantum cascade detector (QCD). The detector absorption spectrum is centered at 2260 cm−1 (4.4 μm) and has a full width at half maximum of 200 cm−1 (25 ...
