Various technological applications for body posture correction have been proposed in order to improve handwriting or facilitate its learning for children, under the assumption that a better posture promotes better handwriting. However, very little research ...

This research occurred in a special context where Kazakhstan's recent decision to switch from Cyrillic to the Latin-based alphabet has resulted in challenges connected to teaching literacy, addressing a rare combination of research hypotheses and technical ...

In educational HRI, it is generally believed that a robots behavior has a direct effect on the engagement of a user with the robot, the task at hand and also their partner in case of a collaborative activity. Increasing this engagement is then held respons ...

Popularity of massive online open courses (MOOCs) allowed educational researchers to address problems which were not accessible few years ago. Although classical statistical techniques still apply, large datasets allow us to discover deeper patterns and to ...

This research is situated in a specialized context offering a rarely occurring opportunity for research questions and technical objectives about language acquisition. The Kazakh language transition from Cyrillic to Latin alphabet in Kazakhstan raises chall ...

Pronunciation is a critical yet challenging aspect of language acquisition, especially for children. In this work, we propose a new teachable agent system designed to support children's pronunciation learning through a Learning-by-Teaching paradigm to addr ...

In the present study, we conducted all assessment and training of both parents and children entirely online to examine the effectiveness of an online parental coaching programme in facilitating young Filipino children's language, literacy, and numeracy ski ...

Research on learning dashboards aims to identify what data is meaningful to different stakeholders in education, and how data can be presented to support sense-making processes. This paper summarizes the main outcomes of a systematic literature review on l ...

Exploring design space is an important process in finding solutions to a design task. In this paper, we present BloomGraph, an online application developed for florist apprentices to explore the space of bouquet designs. BloomGraph provides a graph-based i ...

We build a conversational agent which knowledge base is an online forum for parents of autistic children. We collect about 35,000 threads totalling some 600,000 replies, and label 1% of them for usefulness using Amazon Mechanical Turk. We train a Random Fo ...

Maintaining a proper body posture during interactions with educational tablet applications is crucial for children's physical well-being and task performance, especially considering digital tablet's increasingly pervasive use in classrooms. In this work we ...

In this integrated study of dynamics in MOOCs discussion forums, we analyze the interplay of temporal patterns, discussion content, and the social structure emerging from the communication using mixed methods. A special focus is on the yet under-explored a ...

This paper proposes new ways to assess handwriting, a critical skill in any child’s school journey. Traditionally, a pen and paper test called the BHK test (Concise Evaluation Scale for Children’s Handwriting) is used to assess children’s handwriting in Fr ...

The academic and behavioral progress of children is associated with the timely development of reading and writing skills. Dysgraphia, characterized as a handwriting learning disability, is usually associated with dyslexia, developmental coordination disord ...

This paper focuses on the interaction patterns of learners studying in pairs who were provided with multimedia learning material. In a previous article, we reported that learning scores were higher for dyads of an ‘animations’ condition than for dyads of a ...

Intelligent Tutoring Systems (ITS) are required to intervene in a learning activity while it is unfolding, to support the learner. To do so, they often rely on performance of a learner, as an approximation for engagement in the learning process. However, i ...

This book summarises 15 years of research (2007-2021) on the exploitation of digital technologies for VET. In other words, our activities started the same year as the first iPhone was launched! Four research groups formed the leading house on the topic, na ...

Different typing devices lead to different typing error patterns. In addition, different persons using the same device have different error patterns. Considering this, we propose and evaluate a spelling algorithm specifically designed for a five-key chordi ...

Augmented paper has been proposed as a way to integrate more easily ICTs in settings like formal education, where paper has a strong presence. However, despite the multiplicity of educational applications using paper-based computing, their deployment in au ...
