Autocatalytic reactions were proposed to play a key role at the beginning of life starting from the first reduction of CO2 to formate, acetate and C-1-C-4 hydrocarbons. In carbon capture and utilization (CCU) processes, the same reactions were demonstrated ...

Inorganic perovskite solar cells could benefit from surface passivation using 2D/3D perovskite heterostructures. However, conventional spacer cations fail to exchange with the tightly bonded Cs cation in the inorganic perovskite to form 2D layers atop; or, ...

Valorization of CO2, an abundant C(1) synthon, into platform chemicals is of growing interest. In this context, a key reaction is the cycloaddition of CO2 to epoxides to form carbonates (CCE). A series of organocatalysts for this reaction, based on imidazo ...

The rational development of multinuclear arene ruthenium complexes (arene = p-cymene, hexamethylbenzene) from generation 1 (G1) and generation 2 (G2) of 4-iminopyridyl based poly(propyleneimine) dendrimer scaffolds of the type, DAB-(NH2)n (n = 4 or 8, DAB ...

A novel automated method based on sequential injection analysis (SIA), a non-segmented flow injection technique, was developed to evaluate glutathione S-transferase P1-1 (GST P1-1) activity in the presence of organometallic complexes with putative anticanc ...

In this article we highlight some of the recent developments in the aqueous-phase hydrogenation of alkenes and arenes. The traditional types of water-soluble catalysts applied in aqueous media are outlined together with recent trends towards the developmen ...

Two thermoresponsive polymers, poly(3-ethyl-1-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone) and poly(3-butyl-1-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone), with very sensitive and reversible temp.-dependent water soly. were described. The application of these polymers as Au nanocatalyst stabilizers lead ...

Hydrogels are polymeric materials that have a relatively high capacity for holding water. Recently, a double network (DN) technique was developed to fabricate hydrogels with a toughness comparable to rubber. The mechanical properties of DN hydrogels may be ...

Perovskite solar cells (PSCs) with high efficiencies have been reported in recent years. Consequently, the main obstacle that hinders their commercialization is their poor thermal stability. Here, we describe the introduction of an A-site cation (2-choloro ...

Cost-effective solid-state electrolytes with improved conductivity and device performances have received much research interest in (photo)-electrochemical cells, including solar cells, secondary batteries, and so on. In this work, a series of organic ionic ...

A new range of pendent diphosphine (η6-p-cymene)ruthenium(II) complexes, [RuCl(PPh3)(η1-(P-P))(η6-p-cymene)]PF6 (P-P = dppm, cis-PPh2CHCHPPh2

As a leading contender to replace lead halide perovskites, tin-based perovskites have demonstrated ever increasing performance in solar cells and light-emitting diodes (LEDs). They tend to be processed with dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) solvent, which has been ...

A series of dicationic styrene-functionalized imidazolium-based salts, in which the two imidazolium rings are bridged by a functionalized spacer, are prepared. The salts are polymerized to afford cross-linked imidazolium-based ionic polystyrene materials, ...

Cationic arene ruthenium-based tetranuclear complexes comprising rectangular structures have been obtained from the dinuclear arene ruthenium complexes [Ru2(arene)2(OO.intrsec.OO)2Cl2] (arene = p-cymene, hexamethylbenzene; OO.intrsec.OO = 2,5-dihydroxy-1,4 ...

Vascular-targeted low-dose photodynamic therapy (L-PDT) was shown to improve chemotherapy distribution in malignant pleural tumors such as malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM). However, the mechanisms triggered by L-PDT on the tumor vasculature are still d ...

Cuprous oxide (Cu2O) materials are the most promising copper-based catalysts for electrochemical nitrate (NO3[sbnd]) reduction to ammonia (NH3). Nevertheless, adsorption for N[sbnd]containing intermediates (NO3[sbnd], NO2[sbnd], etc.) is too[sbnd]strong, ...

Tumor vasculature is known to be poorly organized leading to increased leakage of molecules to the extravascular space. This process can potentially increase interstitial fluid pressure impairing intra-tumoral blood flow and oxygen supply, and can affect d ...

A series of trans-platinum(IV) complexes with functionalized aromatic carboxylate ligands, cis,cis,trans-Pt(NH3)2Cl2(CO2C6H4R)2 (R = H (3), p-vinyl (4), p-methoxy (5), p-iodo (6), ...

Retinoblastoma is the most common pediatric eye cancer. It is currently treated with a limited number of drugs, adapted from other pediatric cancer treatments. Drug toxicity and relapse of the disease warrant new therapeutic strategies for these young pati ...

Lignin is an abundant renewable carbon source. Due to its complex structure, utilization of lignin is very challenging. Herein, we describe an efficient strategy for the simultaneous utilization of lignin, in which the methoxy groups in lignin react with c ...
