Position and time measurements of scintillation events encode information about the radiation source. Single photon avalanche diode (SPAD) arrays offer multiple-megapixel spatial resolution and tens of picoseconds temporal resolution for detecting single p ...

In this article, we report on SwissSPAD3 (SS3), a 500 x 500 pixel single-photon avalanche diode (SPAD) array, fabricated in 0.18-mu m CMOS technology. In this sensor, we introduce a novel dual-gate architecture with two contiguous temporal windows, or gate ...

Several physical quantities of interest are of quantum nature, often measurable as distinct particles. Light is one such example, photons being its particles. In conventional detectors, light is converted onto electrical charges and hence onto a current or ...

The idea of exploiting quantum features of light to perform more precise astrophysical measurements is a long-desired goal of both the optics and astrophysics communities, but only recently have theoretical proposals started to be experimentally implemente ...

Blumino is the first analog silicon photomultiplier with integrated amplifier, comparator and time-to-digital converter (TDC). The combination of a photodetector together with on-chip readout circuitry enables system-level advantages, such as internal para ...

This paper presents a device matching study of a commercial 40-nm bulk CMOS technology operated at cryogenic temperatures. Transistor pairs and linear arrays, optimized for device matching, were characterized over the temperature range from 300 K down to 4 ...

Cryogenic solid-state quantum processors require classical control and readout electronics; to achieve compactness and scalability, cryogenic integrated circuits have been recently proposed for this goal. Circulators are widely used in readout circuits, ho ...

SPADnet is a sensor platform for the detection and processing of gamma photons generated in a PET system. SPADnet uses the novel technique of deferred coincidence detection, whereas timestamps associated with gamma events and their energy are routed at hig ...

This article presents a 4-to-5 GHz LC oscillator operating at 4.2K for quantum computing applications. The phase noise (PN) specification of the oscillator is derived based on the control fidelity for a single-qubit operation. To reveal the substantial gap ...

The performance of SwissSPAD2 (SS2), a large scale, widefield time-gated CMOS SPAD imager developed for fluorescence lifetime imaging, has recently been described in the context of visible range and fluorescence lifetime imaging microscopy (FLIM) of dyes w ...

Megapixel single-photon avalanche diode (SPAD) arrays have been developed recently, opening up the possibility of deploying SPADs as general-purpose passive cameras for photography and computer vision. However, most previous work on SPADs has been limited ...

Understanding exciton-exciton interaction in multiply excited nanocrystals is crucial to their utilization as functional materials. Yet, for lead halide perovskite nanocryst-als, which are promising candidates for nanocrystal-based technologies, numerous c ...

Per-pixel time-to-digital converter (TDC) architectures have been exploited by single-photon avalanche diode (SPAD) sensors to achieve high photon throughput, but at the expense of fill factor, pixel pitch and readout efficiency. In contrast, TDC sharing a ...

Single-photon avalanche diodes (SPAD) detect individual photons with fine temporal resolutions, enabling capabilities like imaging in near-total darkness, extreme dynamic range, and rapid motion. Due to these capabilities, and coupled with the recent emerg ...

Single-photon avalanche diode (SPAD) arrays are solid-state detectors that offer imaging capabilities at the level of individual photons, with unparalleled photon counting and time-resolved performance. This fascinating technology has progressed at a very ...

We report on the design and characterization of a novel time-resolved image sensor fabricated in a 130 nm CMOS process. Each pixel within the 32x32 pixel array contains a low-noise single-photon detector and a high-precision time-to-digital converter (TDC) ...

A significant number of cryogenic low -noise amplifiers (cryo-LNAs) are required for the readout of superconducting nanowire detector (SNWD) arrays. It is desirable to have compact cryo-LNAs in place so that the size of the readout circuitry for the SNWD a ...

We present the world's first backside-illuminated (BSI) single-photon avalanche diode (SPAD) based on standard silicon-on-insulator (SOI) complementary metal-oxide semiconductor (CMOS) technology. This SPAD achieves a good dark count rate (DCR) after backs ...

The design and characterization of an imaging system is presented for depth information capture of arbitrary three-dimensional (3-D) objects. The core of the system is an array of 32 × 32 rangefinding pixels that independently measure the time-of-flight of ...

We present an analog silicon photomultiplier (SiPM) based on a standard 55-nm Bipolar-CMOS-DMOS (BCD) technology. The SiPM is composed of 16 x 16 single-photon avalanche diodes (SPADs) and measures 0.29 x 0.32 mm(2). Each SPAD cell is passively quenched by ...
