Understanding the structural and compositional sensitivities of the electrochemical CO2 reduction reaction (CO2RR) is fundamentally important for developing highly efficient and selective electrocatalysts. Here, we use Ag/Cu nanocrystals to uncover the key ...

The combination of the topographic resolution of Scanning Probe Microscopy with the subwavelength information of light/matter interaction leads to a new instrument called Scanning Near-field Optical Microscope (SNOM). This new instrument is an ideal tool t ...

Recent years have witnessed considerable progress in the development of solar cells based on lead halide perovskite materials. However, their intrinsic instability remains a limitation. In this context, the interplay between the thermal degradation and the ...

Surface passivation of the perovskite photo absorber is a key factor to improve the photovoltaic performance. So far robust passivation strategies have not yet been revealed. Here, we demonstrate a successful passivation strategy which controls the Fermi-l ...

Prussian blue (PB) and Prussian blue analogues (PBAs) are commonly synthesized by conventional methods, such as chemical precipitation, thermal decomposition, and electrochemical deposition. Herein, we have successfully synthesized Prussian blue by oxidati ...

Jahn–Teller polarons are quasiparticles that stem from symmetry breaking and strong local electron–phonon coupling. They originate from an excess charge carrier being dressed by a local lattice distortion, caused by the Jahn–Teller effect, and they critically impact electrical, structural, and magnetic properties in transition metal oxides. The observation of the microscopic steps involved in their formation is essential for enabling control over material properties through the targeted activation of local,

The use of all-inorganic perovskite nanocrystals (PeNCs) in photocatalytic systems has been limited because of their instability in polar solvents. Encapsulation of PeNCs in inorganic or polymeric matrices has been shown to be effective in overcoming such ...

Three benzodipyrrole (BDP)-based organic small molecules with substituted 4-methoxyphenyl (CB-1), 3-fluorophenyl (CB-2), and 3-trifluoromethylphenyl (CB-3) are designed, synthesized, and used as a hole-transporting material (HTM) for perovskite solar cells ...

Direct light olefin synthesis from CO2 hydrogenation is a new pathway to decarbonize the chemical industry. Inspired by the promising catalytic activity of Ga2O3-based catalysts in alkane dehydrogenation, this study reveals that optimizing Ga content in th ...

Synergistic effects at metal/metal oxide interfaces often give rise to highly active and selective catalytic motifs. So far, such interactions have been rarely explored to enhance the selectivity in the electrochemical CO2 reduction reaction (CO2RR). Herei ...

In situ investigation of the surface composition of catalyst particles improves the understanding of the active species in heterogeneous catalysis. This study analyzed the surface chemistry of ruthenium nanoparticles supported on alumina during CO2 methana ...

Growing polymers inside porous metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) can allow incoming guests to access the backbone of otherwise non-porous polymers, boosting the number and/or strength of available adsorption sites inside the porous support. In the present wo ...

We present a facile molecular-level interface engineering strategy to augment the long-term operational and thermal stability of perovskite solar cells (PSCs) by tailoring the interface between the perovskite and hole transporting layer (HTL) with a multif ...

Gathering information on the atomic nature of reactive sites and trap states is key to fine tuning catalysis and suppressing deleterious surface voltage losses in photoelectrochemical technologies. Here, spectroelectrochemical and computational methods wer ...

Catalytic H2 combustion (CHC) is an efficient way to mitigate H2 slip from industrial processes, overcoming the explosion and NOx emission risks. Although Pt-based catalysts are state-of-the-art catalysts, little is known about the CHC catalytic activity o ...

Photoelectrochemical carbon dioxide reduction (PEC-CO2R) represents a promising approach for producing renewable fuels and chemicals using solar energy. However, attaining even modest solar-to-fuel (STF) conversion efficiency often necessitates the use of ...

The performance of perovskite solar cells is highly dependent on the fabrication method; thus, controlling the growth mechanism of perovskite crystals is a promising way towards increasing their efficiency and stability. Herein, a multi-cation halide compo ...

The primary performance limitation in inverted perovskite-based solar cells is the interface between the fullerene-based electron transport layers and the perovskite. Atomic layer deposited thin aluminum oxide (AlOX) interlayers that reduce nonradiative re ...

Ether-based electrolytes are well-suited for lithium metal anodes but suffer from limited oxidative stability, restricting their use with high-voltage cathodes. Fluorination has been employed to mitigate this challenge; however, their recycling poses envir ...

The limited mechanistic understanding and ambiguous structure–performance relationships have hindered the optimization of Cu-based catalysts for the reverse water–gas shift (rWGS) reaction. Here, we report a flame spray pyrolysis (FSP)-derived Cu–CeO2 catalyst featuring highly dispersed, surface-substituted Cu+ species (CuyCe1–yO2–x) anchored on a defect-rich ceria matrix. This catalyst demonstrates excellent stability and outstanding rWGS activity at 600 °C, achieving a CO production rate of 8094 mmol/gcat
