Material classification is becoming more important in computer vision and digital photography applications, which require accurate classification of objects present in the imaged scene. This is a very challenging task because the sheer diversity of scene c ...

In this work we study the varying importance of faces in images. Face importance is found to be affected by the size and number of faces present. We collected a dataset of 152 face images with faces in different size and number of faces. We conducted a cro ...

The major low-level perceptual components that influence the beauty ratings of video are color, contrast, and motion. To estimate the beauty ratings of the NHK dataset, we propose to extract these features based on supervoxels, which are a group of pixels ...

We present a study on the the applicability of hyperspectral images to evaluate color filter array (CFA) design and the performance of demosaicking algorithms. The aim is to simulate a typical digital still camera processing pipe-line and to compare two di ...

In this paper we derive convolutional filters for colour image whitening and decorrelation. Whilst whitening can be achieved via eigendecomposition of the image patch covariance, this operation is neither efficient nor biologically plausible. Given the shi ...

Detection of visually salient image regions is useful for applications like object segmentation, adaptive compression, and object recognition. In this paper, we introduce a method for salient region detection that outputs full resolution saliency maps with ...

We propose a new method to render high dynamic range images that models global and local adaptation of the human visual system. Our method is based on the center-surround Retinex model. The novelties of our method is first to use an adaptive surround, whos ...

Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) have been widely adopted for many imaging applications. For image aesthetics prediction, state-of-the-art algorithms train CNNs on a recently-published large-scale dataset, AVA. However, the distribution of the aestheti ...

It is useful to have a small set of representative images from a database of thousands of images to summarize its content. There are two key aspects of such image summaries: how to generate them and how to present them. We address both issues. We extend th ...

Little prior image processing work has addressed estimation and classification of skin color in a manner that is independent of camera and illuminant. To this end, we first present new methods for 1) fast, easy-to-use image color correction, with specializ ...

We present a method to automatically detect shadows in a fast and accurate manner by taking advantage of the inherent sensitivity of digital camera sensors to the near-infrared (NIR) part of the spectrum. Dark objects, which confound many shadow detection ...

We introduce the first multitasking vision transformer adapters that learn generalizable task affinities which can be applied to novel tasks and domains. Integrated into an off-the-shelf vision transformer backbone, our adapters can simultaneously solve mu ...

A near-infrared (NIR) image of a scene contains different information than the corresponding visible spectrum (RGB) image, due to physical phenomena related to scattering, absorption, and reflectance of the different radiation bands. It can be desirable to ...

We present Diffusion in Style, a simple method to adapt Stable Diffusion to any desired style, using only a small set of target images. It is based on the key observation that the style of the images generated by Stable Diffusion is tied to the initial lat ...

It is challenging to complete an image whose 99 percent pixels are randomly missing. We present a solution to this extreme image completion problem. As opposed to existing techniques, our solution has a computational complexity that is linear in the number ...

Self-supervised learning (SSL) methods aim to learn view-invariant representations by maximizing the similarity between the features extracted from different crops of the same image regardless of cropping size and content. In essence, this strategy ignores ...

Super-resolution imaging techniques reconstruct a high resolution image from a set of low resolution images that are taken from almost the same point of view. The problem can be subdivided into two main parts: an image registration part where the different ...

In this paper we describe an exploratory study of a mobile cosmetic advisory system that enables women to select appropriate colors of cosmetics. This system is intended for commercial use to address the problem of foundation color selection. Although wome ...

We present methods to estimate perceptual uniformity of color spaces and to derive a perceptually uniform RGB space using geometrical criteria defined in a logarithmic opponent color representation. ...

Detection of visually salient image regions is useful for applications like object segmentation, adaptive compression, and object recognition. Recently, full-resolution salient maps that retain well-defined boundaries have attracted attention. In these map ...
