While research on the design of heterogeneous concurrent systems has a long and rich history, a unified design methodology and tool support has not emerged so far, and thus the creation of such systems remains a difficult, time-consuming and error-prone pr ...

Broadcast and broadband networks continue to be separate worlds in the video consumption business. Some initiatives such as HbbTV have built a bridge between both worlds, but its application is almost limited to providing links over the broadcast channel t ...

This paper presents a methodology to perform design space exploration of complex signal processing systems implemented using the CAL dataflow language. In the course of space exploration, critical path in dataflow programs is first presented, and then anal ...

Heterogeneous parallel systems are becoming mainstream computing platforms nowadays. One of the main challenges the development community is currently facing is how to fully exploit the available computational power when porting existing programs or developing new ones with available techniques. In this direction, several design space exploration methods have been presented and extensively adopted. However, defining the feasible design space of a dynamic dataflow program still remains an open issue. This pa

Nowadays, network infrastructures are increasingly used in support to commercialization of digital multimedia content. Such kind of non-material goods, namely videos, music, still images and any other type of multi-media information are ready for the migra ...

Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP (DASH) is referred to as a multimedia streaming standard to deliver high quality multimedia content over the Internet using conventional HTTP Web servers. As a fundamental feature, it enables automatic switching of qual ...

After several generations of video coding standards, MPEG High Efficient Video Coding (HEVC) is likely to emerge as the video coding standards for HD and Ultra-HD TV. HEVC decoding is expected to be less computationally demanding and to provide a higher le ...

The intrinsic high entropy metadata, known as quality scores, are largely the cause of the substantial size of sequence data files. Yet, there is no consensus on a viable reduction of the resolution of the quality score scale, arguably because of collatera ...

MPEG High Efficient Video Coding (HEVC) is likely to emerge as the video coding standard for HD and Ultra-HD TV resolutions. The two elements that push HEVC beyond the previous standards are a higher compression efficiency of about a factor of two, and the ...

Minimizing buffer sizes of dynamic dataflow implementations without introducing deadlocks or reducing the design performance is in general an important and useful design objective. Indeed, buffer sizes that are too small causing a system to deadlock during ...

In this paper we propose a design methodology to partition dataflow applications on a multi clock domain architecture. This work shows how starting from a high level dataflow representation of a dynamic program it is possible to reduce the overall power co ...

This paper presents the main features of the TURNUS coexploration environment, an unified design space exploration framework suitable for heterogeneous parallel systems designed using an high level dataflow representation. The main functions of this tool a ...

High-throughput sequencing (HTS) data are commonly stored as raw sequencing reads in FASTQ format or as reads mapped to a reference, in SAM format, both with large memory footprints. Worldwide growth of HTS data has prompted the development of compression ...

This paper presents a dataflow design methodology and an associated co-exploration environment, focusing on the optimization of buffer sizes. The approach is applicable to dynamic dataflow designs and its performance is presented and validated by experimen ...

This paper provides the specification and an initial validation of an evaluation framework for the comparison of lossy compressors of genome sequencing quality values. The goal is to define reference data, test sets, tools and metrics that shall be used to ...
