A method and device for the rapid detection of biomolecules (320) diffusing in a nanometer-confined slit (204) is claimed. In particular, the present invention relates to a novel concept of fluidic side apertures (205) that facilitates the filling of the d ...

The invention concerns an optical imaging apparatus comprising (o) a light source (1) , (p) sample holding means, (q) an interferometer, (r) reference means, (s) an objective (8) which is adapted to have its sample side focal plane crossing a sample held i ...

We demonstrate three-dimensional, nanometer-scale positioning precision of a single quantum-dot using single molecule interference and localization. We anticipate that our approach will lay the foundation for fluorescence microscopy with molecular resolution in all three dimensions.

The impact of human adult ischemia-tolerant mesenchymal stem cells (hMSCs) and factors (stem cell factors) on cerebral amyloid beta (Aβ) pathology was investigated in a mouse model of Alzheimer's disease (AD). To this end, hMSCs were administered intraveno ...

A straightforward method to achieve super-resolution consists of taking an image sequence of stochastically blinking emitters using a standard wide-field fluorescence microscope. Densely packed single molecules can be distinguished sequentially in time usi ...

A novel imaging method exploiting the photophysics of fluores- cent markers is presented, where the contrast depends on the triplet state kinetics, which are considerably slower than the sin- glet state kinetics. This makes it more sensitive to the microenvi- ronment [1]. A biological assay of oxygen consumption upon smooth muscle cell contraction is presented.

We demonstrate in-vivo functional imaging of the human retina with Fourier domain optical coherence tomography employing frequency encoding of an excitation pattern. The principle is based on projecting a modulated rectangular pattern across the foveal reg ...

Fiber lasers in the visible spectral range at 603 and 634 nm were demonstrated using upconversion in fluoride Pr3+-Yb3+-doped fibers and Bragg gratings photoinduced in germanosilicate fibers. Reliable fine tuning of the all-fiber laser over 6.9 at 603 nm has been demonstrated using high strength fiber Bragg gratings.

Live-cell imaging of focal adhesions requires a sufficiently high temporal resolution, which remains a challenge for super-resolution microscopy. Here we address this important issue by combining photoactivated localization microscopy (PALM) with super-res ...

Dark-field illumination is known to enhance scattering contrast in optical microscopy. We combined this concept with Fourier domain optical coherence microscopy (OCM). The detection and illumination paths are decoupled, and only the scattered light origina ...

Fluorescence correlation spectroscopy allows investigating the interaction of charged proteins with charged surfaces of liquid-filled nanochan- nels. Based on a 2-D multi-component diffusion model the bulk and surface diffusion behavior is quantified.

PURPOSE: Examination of morphology in corneal ablation induced by a q-switched Er:YSGG (2.79 mu m) laser and a free-running Er:YAG laser (2.94 mu m).

We introduce an efficient, image formation model-based algorithm that extends super-resolution fluorescence localization to include orientation estimation, and report experimental accuracies of 5 nanometers for position estimation and 2 degrees for dipole orientation estimation.

Super-resolution optical fluctuation imaging (SOFI) achieves three-dimensional super-resolution by computing higher-order spatio-temporal cross-cumulants of stochastically blink-ing fluorophores. In contrast to localization microscopy, SOFI is compatible with weakly emitting fluorophores and a wider range of blinking conditions. The main drawback of SOFI is the nonlinear response to brightness and blinking heterogeneities in the sample, which limits the use of higher cumulant orders. We present a balanced S

The solid immersion lens (SIL) as a tool for increasing the field confinement as well as providing optimal performance by aberration compensation in a confocal fluorescence correlation spectroscopy (FCS) system is illustrated here. Using Zernike polynomial ...

We present an imaging contrast based on triplet state life-time extracted from a series of images taken with modulated excitation schemes. This technique is validated by visualizing oxygen consumption dur- ing contraction of smooth muscle cells.

Fast, label-free, high-resolution, three-dimensional imaging platforms are crucial for high-throughput in vivo time-lapse studies of the anatomy of Caenorhabditis elegans, one of the most commonly used model organisms in biomedical research. Despite the ne ...

We report on a novel method combining achromatic complex FDOCT signal reconstruction with a common path and dual beam configuration. The complex signal reconstruction allows resolving the complex ambiguity of the Fourier transform and to enhance the achiev ...

Undoped fluoride glass slides have been exposed to pulsed 193-nm ultraviolet (UV) irradiation. Their absorption changes have been measured to evaluate UV-induced index changes using Kramers-Kronig relation. A layer-peeling polishing technique was applied t ...

Super-resolution techniques expand the abilities of researchers who have the knowledge and resources to either build or purchase a system. This excludes the part of the research community without these capabilities. Here we introduce the openSIM add-on to ...
