These theory files (Mathematica Notebooks) are a complement to the Thesis of M. Geissbuehler. The derivation is too lengthy to be included in this form in the thesis. For further explenations of the derivation please refer to the thesis of M. Geissbuehler "Novel Concepts for Functional High Resolution Microscopy" Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), 2011. http://library.epfl.ch/theses/ The authors keep full copyright of this derivation.

Fiber laser systems have the potential to represent an interesting alternative to more conventional laser sources emitting in the visible spectral range. In this contribution we present new results based on fluoride Pr/Yb- doped fiber systems. This Pr/Yb-d ...

In diabetes, pancreatic beta-cells play a key role. These cells are clustered within structures called islets of Langerhans inside the pancreas and produce insulin, which is directly secreted into the blood stream. The dense vascularization of islets of La ...

We demonstrate label-free imaging of cerebral β-amyloidosis ex vivo and in a living mouse model of Alzheimer's disease using extended focus Fourier domain optical coherence microscopy (xfOCM). xfOCM provides 3D, high-resolution images of individual β-amylo ...

We present a full field laser Doppler imaging instrument that enables real-time in vivo assessment of blood flow in dermal tissue and skin. The instrument monitors the blood perfusion in an area of about 50cm2 with 480 x 480 pixels per frame at a rate of 1 ...

The diffraction patterns of fixed fluorophores are characteristic of the orientation of the molecules' underlying dipole. Fluorescence localization microscopy techniques such as PALM and STORM achieve super-resolution by sequentially imaging sparse subsets ...

This project investigates skin anatomy and physiology by three optical, non-invasive techniques: Fringe projection topography mainly for the investigation of tissue topography Parallel laser Doppler blood flow imaging for the investigation of tissue micro circulation , and Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) assessing the anatomy and tissue morphology The different methods are compared and contrasted with respect to their ability to analyse the microstructure of healthy human skin.

This paper discusses the application of objective-type total internal reflection fluorescence correlation spectroscopy (TIR-FCS) to the study of the kinetics of immobilized horseradish peroxidase on a single molecule level. Objective-type TIR-FCS combines ...

We present a new method called optical coherence correlation spectroscopy (OCCS) using nanoparticles as reporters of kinetic processes at the single particle level. OCCS is a spectral interferometry based method, thus giving simultaneous access to several ...

Active mode locking of a Pr3+/Yb3+-doped upconversion fluoride fiber laser with an all-fiber ZnO acousto-optic phase modulator is demonstrated for the first time to the authors' knowledge. Optical pulses of similar to 550-ps duration with a repetition rate of 239 MHz at a wavelength of 635 nm have been generated. (C) 2000 Optical Society of America.

Based on a Debye integral approach, we engineered an extended focal field distribution for Fourier domain optical coherence microscopy. This simulation optimizes beam con- figurations for high lateral resolution combined with extended depth of field.

Optical system comprising a synthetic aperture generating unit; said synthetic aperture generating unit being adapted for generating several apertures, which are correlated by interference for improving contrast and/or resolution based on the interference ...
