As a result of the ever growing number of functionalities and standards to be supported by communication systems, as well as the constant development of radar and imaging technologies, a key research area in the field of microwaves and millimeter waves is ...

The RF performance of a nanoelectromechanical systems (NEMS) capacitive switch based on graphene is evaluated. Our results show that graphene can be a good candidate for the membrane of RF NEMS switches in applications where low actuation voltage and fast ...

The propagation of surface waves along spatially dispersive graphene-based 2-D waveguides is investigated in detail. Graphene is characterized using a full-k(rho) conductivity model under the relaxation-time approximation, which allows to obtain analytical ...

We present the successful operation of the first dielectric elastomer actuator (DEA) driven tunable millimeter-wave phase shifter. The development of dynamically reconfigurable microwave/millimeter-wave (MW/MMW) antenna devices is becoming a prime need in the field of telecommunications and sensing. The real time updating of antenna characteristics such as coverage or operation frequency is particularly desired. However, in many circumstances currently available technologies suffer from high EM losses, incr

Graphene plasmonic nanostructures enable subwavelength confinement of electromagnetic energy from the mid-infrared down to the terahertz frequencies. By exploiting the spectrally varying light scattering phase at the vicinity of the resonant frequency of t ...

The plane wave scattering and absorption by finite and infinite gratings of free-space standing infinitely long graphene strips are studied in the THz range. A novel numerical approach, based on graphene surface impedance, hyper-singular integral equations ...

Radio Frequency (RF) devices generate or control the transmission or reception of electromagnetic (EM) waves such as are used in mobile phones, WIFI etc. Microwave (MW) and millimeter‐wave (MMW) devices are used widely in satellite communications. Dynamic reconfiguration of MW/MMW devices and antennas is becoming a prime need in telecommunication applications, notably for updating in real time antenna characteristics such as coverage, polarization, or even operation frequency. However, available technologie

This paper presents the electrical design and characterization of a wafer-level, or 0-level, package for micro-electromechanical resonators. We start by identifying the requirements on the electrical parasitics of a packaged resonator, derived from an anal ...

We study the characteristics of surface plasmons propagating along graphene sheets, focusing on the effect of spatial dispersion and applied magnetostatic bias, and taking into account the influence of the surrounding media, applied electrostatic biasing f ...

A novel topology for the composite right/left-handed transmission line (CRLH TL) is presented. This type of CRLH TLs has the advantage of exhibiting an all-pass behavior and a frequency-independent characteristic impedance, in the so-called balanced case. ...

Recently, a technique called beam-space MIMO has been demonstrated as an effective approach for transmitting multiple signals while using a single RF-chain. In this work, we present novel design considerations and a compact antenna solution to stimulate th ...

The use of graphene for fixed-beam reflectarray antennas at Terahertz (THz) is proposed. Graphene's unique electronic band structure leads to a complex surface conductivity at THz frequencies, which allows the propagation of very slow plasmonic modes. This leads to a drastic reduction of the electrical size of the array unit cell and thereby good array performance. The proposed reflectarray has been designed at 1.3 THz and comprises more than 25 000 elements of size about lambda(0)/16. The array reflective
