Recent International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) Model Coils and tests on Nb-3 So Cable in Conduit Conductors (CICC) showed a significant and unexpected increase in the broadness of the transition to the normal state, resulting in degradation ...

In response to the 2013 Update of the European Strategy for Particle Physics, the Future Circular Collider (FCC) study was launched, as an international collaboration hosted by CERN. This study covers a highest-luminosity high-energy lepton collider (FCC-e ...

In response to the 2013 Update of the European Strategy for Particle Physics (EPPSU), the Future Circular Collider (FCC) study was launched as a world-wide international collaboration hosted by CERN. The FCC study covered an energy-frontier hadron collider ...

Two short length samples have been prepared and tested in SULTAN to benchmark the performance of high current density, advanced Nb3Sn strands in the large cable-in-conduit conductors (CICC) for ITER. The cable pattern and jacket layout were identical to th ...

The DC performance of the so-called Good Joint Nb3Sn Short Sample conductor, measured in the SULTAN facility in 1999 with a progressively reduced (chopped) joint length, became worse as the joint became shorter. In this paper we present the analysis of tho ...

The ITER toroidal field model coil (TFMC) has been tested in the TOSKA facility of FzK. The racetrack coil, which uses a circular Nb3Sn cable-in-conduit conductor, is equipped with external resistive heaters for the evaluation of the current sharing temperature (Tcs). Since there are no sensors inside the coil, the only possibility to assess the coil temperature is to use the measured inlet temperature and to estimate the downstream propagation of the temperature profile. The analysis has shown that a quant

As the test of the PFC1 is foreseen in 2006 at JAERI Naka, Japan, it is essential to consider in detail the lessons learned from the short NbTi sample tests, as well as the issues left open after them, in order to develop a suitable test program of the PFC ...

EDIPO is the new 12.5 T superconducting test facility that is being installed at CRPP in Villigen, Switzerland. It will be placed beside the existing test facility SULTAN. The main purpose of both facilities is testing samples for the ITER project. EDIPO w ...

An existing Nb3Sn laboratory magnet generating a magnetic field of 12 T is intended to be upgraded to 16 T by means of the use of a high temperature superconductor (HTS) insert coil. An outline design of the HTS insert coil is presented. In the design, the ...

Within the framework of the European Fusion Programme (EFDA) a design activity has been started in late 2004 by the EFDA Close Support Unit at Garching (FRG) to design a 12.5 T superconducting dipole magnet. The final goal of this activity is to define a " ...

The EUROfusion DEMO machine is at its pre-conceptual stage. The design of the magnet system for this machine is being developed in collaboration with several European research centers. The Poloidal Field (PF) coils proposed by the Swiss Plasma Center (SPC) ...
