The architecture of an integrated Hamming artificial neural network, and its use as a versatile signal/image processing circuit is presented. The circuit operation relies oil the charge-based processing of sum-of-products terms, complemented with digital p ...

Centralized and multi-level implementations of the Panoptic omnidirectional multiaperture visual system were previously presented by the authors, relying on transmission of all camera outputs to a single central processing node for omnidirectional image an ...

Reliability of Nanoscale Circuits and Systems: Methodologies and Circuit Architectures Milos Stanisavljevic Alexandre Schmid Yusuf Leblebici Future integrated circuits are expected to be made of emerging nanodevices and their associated interconnects, but the reliability of such components is a major threat to the design of future integrated computing systems. Reliability of Nanoscale Circuits and Systems: Methodologies and Circuit Architectures confronts that challenge. The first part discusses the state-o

A custom spherical light-field camera used as a polydioptric system where imagers are distributed over a spherical geometry, each having its own vision of the surrounding and distinct focal plane. The spherical light-field camera is also an omnidirectional ...

The theoretical analysis of R-fold modular redundancy, cascaded R-fold modular redundancy and NAND multiplexing is presented and these fault-tolerant techniques are compared in terms of resistance to massive levels of defect density. Optimal cluster size a ...

A multi-camera system inspired from the visual system of flying insects is introduced which is referred to as the Panoptic camera. In the Panoptic system each camera is mounted over a hemispherical geometry and has its own vision of surrounding and distinc ...

Walsh-Hadamard based orthogonal sampling of signals is studied in this paper, and an application of this technique is presented. Using orthogonal sampling, a single analog-to-digital converter (ADC) only is sufficient to perform parallel (simultaneous) rec ...

This paper presents a wireless power and data transmitter designed for central implanted units (CIUs) in the context of biomedical applications. This CIU is positioned within the human body or brain to supply power from stored battery energy to specific im ...

This article presents a fully on-chip low-power LDO voltage regulator dedicated to remotely powered wireless cortical implants. This regulator is stable over the full range of alternating load current and provides fast load regulation achieved by applying ...

The Panoptic camera is an omnidirectional multi-aperture visual system which is realized by mounting multiple imaging sensors on a hemispherical frame. In this chapter, we will present a novel distributed and parallel implementation of the real-time omnidi ...

This paper presents a wireless power and data conversion unit, designed to receive power and data via a single inductive link with a focus on applications in implanted biomedical devices. The system provides a reliable power supply for electronic circuits ...

A wirelessly powered and data communication system is presented which is implemented as a full system, designed for multisite implanted biomedical applications. The system is capable of receiving wireless power and data communication for each implant separ ...

This chapter presents the remote powering and conversion mechanisms applied to wireless cortical implants, and more specifically developing the three-layer architecture explained in Chap. 1. The central implanted unit (CIU), implanted internally, serves as the primary wireless power source for the implant (ASPs), with wireless power delivery achieved through magnetic coupling and the received power must be converted into a stable DC voltage. The design of power conversion units is presented in this chapter.

Using blocking capacitors in biomedical stimulators is important to the safety of the developed systems. However, the capacitors should be large enough in order to minimize the required voltage headroom. On the other hand, integrating large capacitors of few micro-Farads alongside the stimulator is almost impossible in implantable systems. High frequency current switching is a method that enables reducing the size of blocking capacitors. However, this method needs high-frequency square pulses, which is powe

Feature extraction from a multichannel compressed neural signal is introduced in this brief. Compressive sensing (CS) is an efficient method for reducing the transmission data rate of sparse biological signals and lowering the power consumption of resource ...

The real-time development of multi-camera systems is a great challenge. Synchronization and large data rates of the cameras adds to the complexity of these systems as well. The complexity of such system also increases as the number of their incorporating cameras increases. The customary approach to implementation of such system is a central type, where all the raw stream from the camera are first stored then processed for their target application. An alternative approach is to embed smart cameras to these s

This paper presents a new approach for assessing the reliability of nanometer-scale devices prior to fabrication and a practical reliability architecture realization. A four-layer architecture exhibiting a large immunity to permanent as well as random fail ...

Research in artificial intelligence (AI) and neural network (NN) technologies has been boosted by recent hardware advances, while the emergence of self-synthesized materials such as nanocarbons has attracted much attention to overcome the limitations of Si ...

A new plenoptic sensor inspired from the visual system of flying insects is introduced. This sensor is referred to as the Panoptic camera. This system has two distinguished features. First, it is an omnidirectional camera capable of recording light information around it. Second, it is a polydioptric system where each CMOS facet has a distinct focal plane; hence the full system is a multiple aperture camera. An FPGA based solution is proposed for real time application deployment. The omnidirectional vision r

A novel compressive sampling scheme suitable for highly scalable hardware implementations is presented. The prototype design is implemented in a 0.18um standard CMOS technology and utilizes compressed acquisition to boost the overall power efficiency. Spec ...
